I know this discussion might be getting old but its better than the fire Charlie threads. Anyways, a lot of you disagreed with me last week when I said Clausen should start and I just don't get it. Sharpley played scared on Saturday, yea the o-line might have contributed to that but even when he had time, he continually over threw our receivers. When we got that turnover early in the game on their 20 or someting, it should have been 14-0, lights out. That was in my estimation, the most important part of the game. We go up 14, make them throw, something they're not used to, and pound the ball on offense, its almost a for sure ND victory. Everybody says Sharpley is more mature than JC but did it show when he was scrambling around and got pummelled and fumbled the football? When he could have easlily thrown it out of bounds? He played like 5 minutes last year for crying out loud! At least I've seen JC throw it away sometimes! Sharpley is no better than Clausen. Clausen might make mistakes but if he is healthy, take it to the bank he is much more accurate than Evan. He is also 2 years younger. I'm sure this time off has given JC a much better understanding of the offense and a little time clock in his head to get rid of the football. JC has had 2 games to watch from the bench and I'm sure it has given him some better understanding, so let him play. Let him show that he can lead this team next year. Let him get his timing down with our future standouts WR. Let him get confidence. Please...

Might as well play the kid. Sharpley would give you a better chance to win, but only slightly. If the kid is healthy we might as well see what he can do. Maybe we'll see some flashes of future greatness.

Start Clausen if he is healthy and stick with him. I don't believe Evan gives ND the better chance of winning after the Navy game. His throws were off the mark and on his outs and those quick passes, his throws seemed to take forever to get there. Turn the team over to Jimmy, its not like we are risking falling out of contention or anything.

I actually agree with you for once.

here's the 3 dollar question. sharpley averaged 6 yards a completion. the running game averaged 4 yards a run. sharpley has no accuracy. WHY THROW THE BALL?

Get the kid out there. Even if notre dame wins the last three games 70-0, this is the worst season on record. You can do no more damage letting "The Future" play.

Yes, and even less yardage per ATTEMPT! Agreed, let JC take the reins from here on out, IF HEALTHY enough to do so! It's definitely time to look at the future ... 2008 season.

I think alot of people were against starting a banged up Clausen, not against Clausen himself. He certainly seems to not have a lot of strength on throws downfield. That could be because he is only 18, and doesn't have the natural strength to make those throws yet(he could have gotten away with it, in high school, if he had great receivers who could adjust to/go up for underthrown balls and get them), or it could be that his elbow is not fully healed from the surgery. If it's the former, then I say get him in there, and just try to limit the deep throws. If it's the latter, why risk further injuring/aggravating the elbow, and have it become something that carries over into next year?

Yeah, but that's just because you want to run your hands across Brady's face. We don't call you ManRam for nothing you know.

OMG, I just got a creepy visual of the athlete feeling Tiger's face during their commercial. Gay is, as gay does.

Be careful out there Rammer.

Long time, no chat bubba. I agree it should be C2K this Sat.

Yea, sorry Stoney, I'm taking 5 classes this semester and working 30 hours a week, its been quite hectic! Anyways, I'm glad everyone is on the same page now. Like an above poster said...what do have to lose? If our o-line can give JC 3 or 4 second in the pocket like ES had last saturday, then we could quick slant and quick out them to death while effectively running the football and taking a deep shot down field every now and then. (Wow, that was a long sentence and my major is education...oh no!)

I hate to interrupt the JC circle-jerk here, but am I the only person who wasn't terribly impressed with his play this year? The way I see it, he's been either a.) not healthy, or 2.) not ready. Either way it doesn't make sense to start him in a throw-away season.

We all cut JC all kinds of slack in his first couple starts. You need to keep in mind that the Navy game was just Sharpley's second start. I definitely think JC has the higher ceiling, but who the better QB is right now is by no means a no-brainer.

I don't want this to come out the wrong way, but I really hope JC has been not 100% healthy, because if he has been then we have some problems. So I just have to "hope" that health has been the issue with JC, in which case there is no way you start him.
If health wasn't the issue, then the question of who is the better QB to start is a total wash to me.

Timugen's been reading my threads.

With Clausen, there may be a "there there", but I haven't seen it yet.

Nothing worse than the strange delusions of desperation...

According to Irish Insights, Clausen has been named the starter for Saturday's game. Let's all hope we see him start becoming all that he was supposed to be.

Good Luck Jimmy!

You all got what you wanted. JC will start, so everyone start believing the world is saved. I for one HOPE that JC is all that and a bag of chips, but so far have not seen that. As for all the Sharpley looked like crap at Navy game, go back and watch the game again. I have watched EVERY play of the game 3 times to see where we failed and improved. I will tell you that there were NOT many bad throws by Sharpley. Certainly not all those overthrown balls everyone talks about. In fact, there were a couple terrible drops by our receivers. There were also some really goood throws by Sharpley. He made a couple bonehead plays too. The fumble was bad, but the playcall was worse. It was another crappy screen set to go NOWHERE. On another play late in the game, he rolled out to the right and failed to throw out of bounds and toook a sack. BAD move Evan. Somehow folks, he did manage to complete a high percentage of his passes during all the overthrows. I hope JC looks like a champion, but don't be so blindly set that he is the savior and Evan is garbage. What will you all do if he looks worse than Evan this week. Crist will be on everyones mind.

We gotta give JC the benefit of the doubt. Not only did he share reps with three others, but he lost time because he was injured, and still may be to some degree. Not to mention he is a freshman.
I think as he learns, and gets stronger, we'll see more of what we foolishly expected so soon. We can't keep getting top recruits and expect them to be the answer. Think Powlus, Clausen, and now Crist? We have our qb...and he will be the man until someone is good enough to supplant him.

Jesus. What is Charlie drinking. He must want to lose versus Air Force. Or maybe this will be the game where Jimmy passes for 400 yards and throws 4 TDs and starts playing like a 20 year old blue chip recruit.
But I doubt it.

Oh yeah and Sharpley is sooooo much better than Clausen. At least Clausen can hit a 10-15 yard route.

Alright, take it easy folks. This is the kind of stuff that won't help us win. Whether you agree or disagree, let's get behind our team, rah rah and all that stuff.
