Acceptable 2009 season....

Just wondering what some of you think will be an acceptable 09 season.... at least in terms of charlie keeping his job. I personally was all for looking into possible replacements for CW, but no other coaches were ever sought out to check their interest level. I have heard things like 9 wins minimum save his job, but what if we get blown out by USC and Michigan but get 9 wins? what if we win 8 games, but beat SC? Is a BCS bowl game a must? Do we have to win the bowl game? Just throwing some thoughts out there, wondering what my fellow irish fans think......

Notre Dame should get nothing worse than 10 wins every year PERIOD. Most of the time the schedual is pretty easy. Next year there is no excuse to not win at least 9-10 games and MUST MUST MUST win the bowl game. I dont think we are going to win the bowl game this year.

ND needs to win their games against Mich, Mich St, Pitt and BC. If they lose 2 games "including SC" I'll be fine with that. They muct appear in a bowl game on New Year's or play in a BCS game.

If the Irish get smashed by USC and then losses the next game to BC "both home games"... He'll "CW" be gone for sure during midseason....

Very good question. So if ND wins its 9 games but shows its colors are black and blue instead of blue and gold against the good teams... Hmmm. My hope is that they play badass all year, every play, every quarter, every game. Hopefully growing depth will create competition enough to keep starters hungry all game and forget "swagger" bullshit. Hopefully team will finally grab their collective nut and realize they are part of the group that officially made a farce of ND football.

I personally have never met a great athlete that had "swagger." The best I have met have been the most humble, but with obvious sustained fire.

i'm not overly concerned about JC. if for some reason he goes down i have no problem with DC taking over in his absence. we need to find a way to block people on the OLine(fire Latina) so we can run the football with the talented backs we have and we need to figure out some sort of scheme to shut opponents run down considerably. if we have success in those areas i see 10 wins available for this football team.

I won't put a number of wins on success. I need to see sustained and continued improvement by the players throuhout the year. We must win against lower level teams. We MUST be competitive into the 4th quarter with USC. I need to see impressive offensive performances in the majority of games. We must not gag on 4th quarter leads. We really should be blowing out some of inferior teams. I must have the impression that the following year will build on that improvement and lead to BCS considertion throughout the year.

If I see this, then I will call it a success, regardless of the number of wins. If all of this happens, the wins will be there.

You should be very concerned. He has not taken a snap in college. Not one.

Reality is that we should expect a 10 win regular season and a BCS bowl game. Anything less than this is what I call a total failure.

We are returning basically every playmaker on Offense and all but 3 real starters on D. Kuntz, Crum, Bruton. This team is loaded for bear and the schedule is a marshmellow glazed cupcake.

Charlie, the table is set for a feast, you better not choke on it!!!!!!!!!!!

i actually have faith in DC despite having not taken any snaps. i believe this kid is a born leader and will someday demonstrate that on the field. i think we're in a good position from a backup standpoint next season. time will tell though. if jimmy has a rough time next year i truly hope charlie will give dayne a shot.

10 wins. anything less and Weis needs to get the hell outta town. We need to close out games, we need to be competitive against USC, and we need to have at the maximum one loss heading into the SC game. Also We need to smoke Michigan. We beat the hell out of them this year, and they will be starting a true frosh at QB (Threet, or Sheridan if not Forcier). Winning at the Big House could be a springboard for the year (no matter how bad Michigan is gonna be next year).

point taken. i don't know i just have a good vibe about him but time will tell. i had a really strong vibe about Floyd too and that ended up being solid. it'll be interesting to see how next season plays out. there will be a ton of storylines going on for 2009.

It depends in part on this bowl game for me. If they win the game, I might be willing to deal w/ Weis coming back if they go 8-4 next year. But even then, I need to see real improvement from the team as a whole, and no blow-out losses. If they lose this game in a couple days though, 9 wins minimum.

I was for firing him this offseason, but since he's back, I'm willing to give him a chance.

And I also have a lot of faith in Dayne Crist even though he hasn't played. He does seem to have a real positive aura about him, and I like how every other recruit in his class says he's the leader of their class. But I don't want to see him start over Clausen so long as Jimmy's healthy, b/c you can't put a value on experience imo. As someone said, you never know until they start really taking snaps. I'd say its more of a thing where I'm comfortable with where ND will be at the position once Clausen graduates than a thing where I want him supplanting Clausen.

For me it would be 10 wins. We made a lot of progression this year, and I had us going 7-5 this year, we fell short but looked good during the first half of the season. Jimmy made smarter decisions and I expect him to grow even more next year. We were a young team and I think next year we can put it together a little bit more than this year and win 10. Anything short of that is failure.

10 WINS PLUS A BOWL WIN. The problem with the DJ situation was you had a logjam of QB's , looking back, I don't blame the qbs that transferred. He wasn't given a chance to prove himself. I'm not saying DJ was the answer, but he got the hook pretty quick. I hope ND can lure in Montana next year.

You people who are will to take 8-9 wins next season, please go find another team to cheer. If we are willing to accept average after 5 years then we are not ND. This is freakin ND, we built college football. CW even said that he should be fired if he can't get it done in 5 years. Well, 8-4 is NOT getting it done. Not with a wealth of 4-5 star players, a softball schedule, 7.5 home games and decided schematic advantage. Get a clue people!!! It should be BCS or bust in 2009, nothing less.

If that is the case lets start picking out our next five head coaches we just don't recruit well enough though we have lots of talent not usc or texas or oklahoma talented recruiting classes coming in every year that and our coaching is pee wee football status if I can look up at a glance of any ND game and know exactly what play is going to be run before they run we are to predictable on offense and soft running the football even though we have the talent to move the rock on the ground we just lose the battle up front every time on defense I would like to see more fire TW may have sucked as a coach but the D came to play just look at any on the stats or d needs to come out and snatch the souls out people man make them wish they never suited up ya know.
