We all wanted the recruits that didn't declare for ND today, but people cannot form their judgments about the direction of the program on a whole based on what a few high schoolers' decisions.
At the beginning of Weis's hiring, if someone told us about the results of the first two years, I think most of us would have taken it. I agree that we haven't made much improvement from last year, if any, but it's tough when the cupboard is bare in a lot of positions. I also agree that defensive improvement is a big concern. I think the offense kind of "maxed out" last year, to a certain degree at least. I too worry about Minter's capabilities, though.
The bottom line, though, is rash complainst based on a high school football game is a little silly. The talent is improving, even on the d-side of the ball. Does this mean we'll win the National Championship in two years? If not--you can start complaining, if we are not at least contenders by then.
The problem in sports is that we are only satisfied, for the most part, if we win every game, and every title. But those expectations can't cloud our vision about where the program is coming from, where it is now, and where it is going. Remember, Weis didn't come into a situation where it only needed good coaching. It needed to be built up by recruiting as well. Let's see if he gets it done on the field, on the college football field that is. But all of us are just armchair quarterbacks, coaches, and athletic directors. It's just surprising to me that in the time of less than a week, so many people's perceptions of Weis have changed so much. Methinks many people's dissapointment is cause for some knee-jerk reactions.
