OK, I am very frustrated with the way the team played...BUT here is a CRITICAL stat of importance.

GT was 2 of 10 on 3rd down!!!

That signals improvement by the Defense to me.

Penalties almost killed us though.
STATS BY TEAM ND GT
1st Downs 22 15
3rd down efficiency 7-16 2-10
4th down efficiency 1-1 0-0
Total Yards 386 258
Passing 246 138
Comp-Att 23-38 12-24
Yards per pass 6.2 5.5
Rushing 140 120
Rushing Attempts 38 28
Yards per rush 3.7 4.3
Penalties 11-80 5-28

Yup...once again that points to coaching and I think Charlie is smart enough to realize his mistakes and correct them...home sweet home though!

The defense was fantastic, especially in the second half.

Offense and special teams I think need some work.

Too many penalties means bad discipline. The coaches better work them hard this week.

Fantastic is a bit nice. Cmon, GT scored what 18PPG last year? We held them to 10. That's good, but not fantastic.

However, compared to LAST YEAR they looked FAR FAR better.

Yes, GT isn't a top-shelf offense like USC, but this team did beat Auburn and Miami last year...with a lot of these same players. In my opinion, we stole this game from them. We came out in the 2nd half and clawed our way to victory. I personally don't care if we drop in the polls...we will still be playing for the National Championship if we win every game by 4 points. A win is a win!

I have to say that I was impressed with the defense for the most part. They stepped up big when needed and only let Ball scramble a couple of times when they should've kept him inside. Them shutting down the No. 1 receiver Johnson in the second half was by far the best part of their play all night though. After their TD, I thought it was going to be a long game of them chucking it up to the obvious mismatch. They did bring over safety help and you rarely heard Johnson's name after that. Plus, 3rd down defense was great.
