Well, with Edwards now gone, if the staff wanted five wide receivers in this class, now is the time to try and push for Barnes.

So this kid is going to Colorado as well?
Unsure if serious but if so, no Clemson and ND are said to be 50/50. My opinion is it's more like 60/40 Clemson. But, no inside info to support that. I just think it's trending towards Clemson as of late.

ND can now say to him that there is an open wide receiver spot. I believe Barnes' preference is WR. Maybe he's locked in with Clemson, but now by losing Edwards, the situation is a little different.

Or, we don't, save the scholarship, and use it next year to take another great four-man wide receiver class.

The 8 INT jump out, but from a stats POV there isn't anything here that really has a 'wow' factor. He's just a very solid, reliable player that has a lot of room to develop.

I tend to lean toward defense with Barnes as well.

Defensive athlete here as well. If they lose Limar, Bowen, and Hillman plays offense then Barnes becomes even more important, IMO. If you don’t land Barnes then I think it’s a sketchy situation at DB again. You just don’t have the numbers to provide much leeway for injuries or misses.

They'll have to hit the portal

Like they were going to at WR?

I’m less than confident the portal should the de facto blacktop to poor roster management on the front end of recruiting. I think there will be certain years where there are certain guys that are perfect fits. But, I think it could get ugly quick if we’re counting on filling significant needs, every cycle, from the portal.

You almost have too with NIL you don’t know whose gonna come poach your players off your roster just like Bama reached out to Mayer last year

I think there is a distinct difference between utilizing the portal when opportunity arises than planning on it to fill holes due to poor recruiting cycle management. We are going to see increased roster turnover, that's a given. That roster turnover has greater impacts when you don't recruit the numbers/talent you need from the start. We need to add larger numbers up front, to account for portal attrition out. Then use the portal to fill those gaps when possible.

Didn’t know he preferred offense that much but makes sense we wanted defense given Smith’s commitment.

So two guys Hanafin and Barnes might have higher upside on D but Clemson is taking them as WRs? Interesting given their recent issue with only having similar skillset big WRs….

Hey coach I absolutely loved every second of your loss to ND last month and was rooting against you the whole damn time. I'm ready to commit.

Not overly upset about losing this one. Feels like a depth piece who likely transfers after a year or two. He doesn't do anything special.

I know the transfer portal changes everything, but I still think the following holds true: just get 'em in the door, sort the rest out later.
