So D1 schools get 11.7 scholarships for baseball. With private schools w/ high tuition like ND, Stanford, Rice, TCU, Baylor, etc, how do kids afford to attend to play baseball? I know academic scholarships play a huge role at schools that allow stacking scholarships but I suspect most of the kids are left w/ an expensive bill after their scholarships have been applied.

You are correct about the academic scholarships playing a large role. There are a lot more than you think that they are able to utilize in that fashion. My senior year of college ball I was awarded a scholarship that was endowed by a booster, but wasn’t specific to the baseball program. It was for a top male athlete that had certain academic standing etc. This freed up my baseball scholly for the coaching staff to recruit with.

I know Vandy began utilizing a workaround when Corbin came on board that basically put most of their players on full scholarship. IIRC, it is an endowment that picks up whatever the baseball fractional scholly provides. Outside of baseball players w/ elite academics, I don’t see how a kid who is good enough to play and has the grades can afford to play baseball at the likes of ND, Baylor, Stanford, Rice, etc.
