I never was so into recruiting before I found this site....there is no reason why the last week in Jan and the first week in Feb should be so stressful

Dittos.

Last year at this time, my ignorance was fairly blissful. Now I sit here at work, looking out the window at the weather (with another storm advisory message) and read the recruiting sites for the latest news on who is coming for the weekend visits. Next week is too far away!

I wouldn't trade it for the world- this and GH are fantastic sites to feed this out of control Jones I have for all things Irish Football. .

My gut feel is that the Irish will land Knox (thanks for the recruiting help Dayne), but I think that Wells will be playing for ole "Sweater Vest" @ O$U. I hope that I'm wrong because 24 is such a "kick ass" number .... just ask Kiefer Sutherland (aka Agent Jack Bauer)!

It's funny... I'm dying for the NCAA to institute an early signing day because I think it would really benefit ND.... you'd really find out early who the 'on board' kids were and who might be wavering. (Although in reality I think you'd just have poachers like that douchebag Urban Liar just start poaching earlier).

At the same time... an early signing day would take a lot of the sick pleasure I get out of the anxiety and stress that comes with this time of year. I love and hate it all at the same time.

I wonder if adding Tenuta will prove to be a little more enticing for Wells to come on board.

Nope, he's out ... once again kicking ass and taking names! Just like Wells would IF he comes to the Irish!

Alabama still has slots for like 6 players so they'll take like 32 or something so they'll be #1. Florida was supposed to have only like 17 or 18 scholarships, but they just keep taking people since their program is a "a year to year scholarship" deal. I think we'll finish a strong #3.

That doesn't seem possible. 32 recruits this year would mean they need 7 early enrolees to get under the 25/year max; 7 would apply to 2007. Are you sure that's right? or were you using hyperbole?

Now that is true. every year they lose a few to academic or off-the-field or out of school issues. it keeps the prior years recruiting classes artificially high, since the recruiting sites don't go back and adjust them for students who do not get admitted or drop out after 1 year.

I agree Irishknight. I don't think we could possibly end up #1 this year. Alabama is in the lead for too many great recruits still... and like you said... they have all that room this year. I'm also guessing that Florida will sneek in there as well considering the douchebag has the "family and friends" scholarship packages available.

I really could care less. I think this class is pretty complete. I mean it would have been nice if we were able to land another OL and (inside) DL for a little depth and for all those other things that come up as we have been witness to. However, all in all... I'm pretty excited. Let's hope we can land Wells and Knox.

It's ok, because 1/3 of them won't qualify for school so they'll only end up taking twenty somthing and then cut them the first chance they get if it looks like they won't pan out long term.

LOL

my father-in-law (who loves the Tide) was in town this week, and while we did talk recruiting and football, I didn't share my thoughts on academics and football. i just was not interested in burning bridges.

How about a recruit can sign whenever he wants?
But there is a deadline.

there was an article last/this(?) week quoting Brian Polian who said many schools are pushing for an early december signing date. the final deadline would still be february.

that's probably been discussed for years and they may not be any more serious this year than before.

No, technically they don't have to sign at all, they could just enroll in school if the chose too. The earliest everyone can sign is the first Wed in Feb and that's when most kids do sign, but some sign later like Noel Devine did last year.

The one thing that got me, was about Devoe Torrence. I believe that if a school can pull a scholly, than a student can change their mind. With an early signing period, i guess after the signing, the school wouldnt be able to pull a scholly?

No, I'm pretty sure teams can still pull a scholarship even after the players sign. I can recall a few instances where players have gotten into trouble and had their scholarship offer revoked after signing their LOI. The one that comes to mind right now is Jon Kreft, a top 50 recruit that signed with FSU, but had his scholarship revoked after being arrested for possession of cocaine.

Actually, now that I've thought about it, didn't Randy Moss get his scholarship pulled by ND after he'd already signed his LOI.

They most definitely can get their scholarship pulled. Breaking any "team rule" can warrant the scholly being taken away.
