According to this article, we added on Tulsa and Western Michigan....

ND to play Western Michigan, Tulsa, Utah in 2010

We're not playing at Navy right? So we only have 3 real away games next year? And Western Michigan? I mean I'm happy Swarbrick didnt go with TCU but I was hoping for like Fresno State or atleast a more respected mid-major in the Media's eyes than WMU.

New poster here. As a TCU fan, I'm disappointed the Irish wouldn't schedule us for one of your games next year. Texas Tech just cancelled their game with us in favor of, believe it, WEBER STATE! Notre Dame is good at getting games with big teams, but we're not having much luck at that. LSU next year, and Oklahoma after that, but no luck for the most part. We don't have the cachet (is that a word?) that the Irish have, but if you have any suggestions for helping us schedule better teams, share it, will you?

Look at the USA Today Sagarin above - of the lowest ranked teams we play - Purdue then UM - - - - - then Wash. St..... and they gave us crap for scheduling Nevada... about 25 places higher. Why do we schedule the Big 10 dolts???? God, I'd love to have that one back.

swarbrick might be retarded, i cannot for the life of me understand why he would schedule teams that are from smaller conferences but play pretty well year after year. there is no positive to playing these teams.

he needs to stop being a pussy and start playing real opponents like tennessee, miami, penn state, ohio state.

no not all in the same season but we used to play tough teams year after year.

the fact that the bcs has completely screwed the way major conferences schedule non conference games i am sure hasnt helped his cause......

so maybe its not really as much his fault.

Maybe because he had two open dates late in the season when most teams are deep in conference play so it is much harder to schedule games. Also consider most games are scheduled years in advance so the last minute choices might have been small

Reminder: Western was scheduled to play Va. Tech. and Va. Tech agreed to let them drop off their schedule so we could play them.

Wonder who Va. Tech. replaced them with? And - aren't they a National Contender (VT)?

Yes and remember this, Navy and everyone of these smaller schools will bring there A-game to South Bend so they can say "We beat Notre Dame at home" This will be all those tiny schools NC....

IDK why but for some reason this schedule is appearing difficult more than easy for me... I think its a pretty difficult schedule if you ask me.

I think the NCAA needs to step in and put a limit on the number of home games a team can play each year. Limit schools to playing 7 home games per year and maybe teams will be forced to put legitate schools on their schedule. Too many schools aren't willing to give up the money and home field advantage of home games.

The OSU and PSU's of the country will have to decide if they want to travel to play in front of the home crowd at Akron or Temple every once in awhile - or they can replace the crap teams with somewhat equivalent programs and venues.

I know it will never happen because of the $$$, but I think it would make ND's scheduling much easier and create a few more good matchups every week.

here are the current sagarin rankings of ND opponents this year and , just for fun, where next years opponents currently sit:

2009

Nevada 56th
MICH 82nd
MSU 54th
Purdue 78th
Wash 53rd
USC 12th
BC 25th
PITT 14th
Navy 40th
Wash ST 119th
Stan 15th
Uconn 47th

2010

Purdue 78th
MICH 82nd
MSU 54th
Stan 15th
BC 25th
Pitt 14th
WMU 115th
Navy 40th
Utah 29th
Army 140th
USC 12th

personally, i dont think any of those teams will be elite/NC contenders. ND should not be having major problems with that schedule and i think only one of those teams may actually have more talented recruits on the field (on paper, anyway). Clausen or not, there are only 3 teams there that should have any business staying in games with ND.

for more fun, here are the final ranking of ND's 1993 opponents:

Northwestern 81st
Michigan 13th
MSU 34th
Purdue 94th
Stanford 55th
Pitt 73rd
BYU 47th
USC 25th
Navy 82nd
Fla ST 1st
BC 16th
Tex A&M 6th

for more fun, average ranking of the teams for each year: (less valid, of course for 2010)

2009: 49.58
2010: 60.40
1993: 43.92

not sure if i have already replied to this thread but that schedule is an absolute shame. i am ashamed of that schedule. 5 in a ROW against non bcs teams. really none that are worthy of being on tv.

if notre dame didnt wasnt notre dame we would have 1 nationally televised game this coming year, and it would be usc and probably on espn2 on a saturday night at 6:30.

i am truely disgusted by this pitiful schedule and the state of college football as a whole.

you know what fuck it let espn make the schedules. that would guarantee good games every week :)

plus it would make them feel like even more special than they already think they are.

of course, when the schedule was made, im sure there was no expectation that stanford or pitt would be better than usual, but likewise there would have been the expectation that Michigan would actually be fielding a football team.

on a side note, how in the hell did ND not put up 60 points on that UM defense?
