If I were to pick a close to this class that is relatively realistic, it would be:

19) Filer
20) Floyd
21) Baldwin
22) Williams (or Thomas)
23) Sabino
24) Robinson

I would second that whole list, looks about perfect to me. I hope jones goes somewhere in the SEC that isnt a powerhouse. alabama or auburn would be alright in my opinion, just not LSU or Florida. Or if he decides to leave the conference, i would hate, absolutely hate, for him to end up at USC...

Weis said that 5th year seniors were going to be a thing of the past. Whether that starts this year or not don't expect them.

spot #19 will go to Filer. i hope Floyd or Thomas come next. Baldwin sounds like he is really interested but i have this weird feeling with him. i really hope he commits tho because a 6'6" receiver who is that fast can do a lot of damage. Robinson should be going public soon. What is great about Filer committing now is that puts the pressure on all the recruits to make their verbal commitment because the boat (eh i mean yatch) is getting full.

Umm, I think you mean YACHT. Unless you're talking about this place:

I know I'm a week late on this, but Ghost - where did you hear him say this?

Well sh!t, hold on I'll try and find it. I know I've heard him say that but I could just be full of it. I really hope I can find it, I'll be embarrassed if I don't. :embar:

Especially since he redshirted Gallup, Gordon, Frazer, DJ, Bartley, Wenger, Wade, Stewart, Schmidt, and Mullen last year. I don't think he'd redshirt them and waste a year of eligibility to make them leave when their 4th eligible year comes up. That wouldn't make much sense. Sorry Ghost I love your postings, but this one is a farse.

I agree IK, wouldn't make too much sense. Nothing personal, GS, you were just relaying info.

Alright, I've searched high and low and I've found something out. I've found out that I have no idea where I came up with that idea. I checked und.com but they only have press conferences from '07. I can't imagine I would just make something like that up. My line of thinking was that I "thought" I remembered Charlie saying that he would not do too much redshirting as the years go on. Try and keep things at 4 years and out so he can play more younger players. I'm sure he'll bring back some 5th years, especially the ones from the '06 class since it's gigantic.

From what I remember he said that ND does not red shirt officially...and if a guy can play he will. That does not mean he WILL burn a year on a guy who should not be playing.

That could be it Ghost...Technically, we don't redshirt. We may offer them a fifth year, but it's not guaranteed. That's the only possible explanation I have for you.

Yes, that's right. I'm sure I also remember him saying that ND doesn't redshirt. I can also definitely imagine him having said that he doesn't want TOO MANY fifth-year seniors. But "a thing of the past" seemed too strong to me.

Charlie made a comment that he is bring in players to play. If they are good enough their frosh year they will play. He said he's not going out looking for players to be here for 5 years, if they are here because they need to develope so be it but that doesn't mean they will be guaranteed a 5th year. If a recruit is needed and it will cost someone losing a 5th year then he will do that.

All of this sounds right, though it's important to be careful about how "needed" is understood in that last sentence ...

You hit the nail on the head there John, with the "needed part". This has always been ND's policy on this (more or less) as far as I can remember. Weis may just be stressing it.

Actually I think ND used to have a policy of (basically) never having students come back for a fifth-year, but that was changed a while ago now (not without some controversy among faculty), with the caveat that anyone coming back for a fifth-year has to have completed his/her B.A. and been admitted to a graduate degree program.

Just FYI: Weis did say today (quoted in the Fall Practice thread) that he WILL continue to hold a scholarship spot for a walk-on in future years.

ND still needs a WR and from all that i've heard theres no garuntee anyone of the key targets at WR will commit to ND for sure. so i was wondering if ND has even offered Kenny Tate a scholarship yet, he was interested in ND even without an offer so if he's offered maybe ND will have a good chance with him.Unless he's been offered already and if he has is there any news on him in regards to ND

No he doesn't have an offer, and the last I heard he had heavy interest in Florida.
