Being concerned about a big running backs straight ahead speed can lead you down the garden path. 20+ yd runs are, in most cases, NOT the result of straight line speed.

Most long runs are the result of the backs ability to break a tackle at or near the line of scrimmage and then accelerating quickly into those wide open spaces. Jonathan Williams was showing that ability on every run.

In the highlight film he wasn't being caught very often by the defensive backs, who generally are as fast as anyone on the team.

Mr Williams will be a 5-11/225 back in college and he looks like he will be a very good one.

Last year his team was rated #3 in the toughest conference in Texas---he was their leading RB. Listed time 4:45 in the 40.

BTW, for those without much knowledge of his football conference in highschool: LEGIT.

His highlight reel shows real competition and teams with great tacklers with hundreds of kids in competition for any one position on the field.

Texas football. Right there with Florida, Cali, and Ohio. (I think Texas has it all but I may be slanted in favor.)

Oh man o man I like his speed burst @1:43(ish) in the first video.

He'd be a very good pickup for us. He's extremely underrated and has grossly underestimated power. Not to mention that his field vision is pretty mature! I like this kid A LOT.
