Whitehead picked up offers from ND and Auburn this week. With the exception of ND and Stanford all his offers are in MS or adjoining states. He's been to Jr days at MS, MS St, and USM.

Rivals 250 To Watch.

One of the many prospects Tony Alford is covering for ND.

Current article names Mississippi his new leader but ND and Tony Alford have his attention.

Scout.com: New leader for Jermaine Whitehead

By Yancy Porter Mississippi Scout

"Ole Miss has the edge with my recruitment because I feel like I have a chance to play," added Jermaine Whitehead. "They have two seniors leaving at cornerback and Marcus Temple and one more senior. The ones coming back do not have it all down pat yet, and I think can come in there as a freshman and be a freshman All-American."

Jermaine took in Ole Miss' practice on Monday without giving notice to the Rebel staff that he was coming.

"I wanted to see how things go without the show. I wanted to see how they really coach their players. When they know that a recruit is there, I know the show is coming. I wanted to see what it was like on a regular basis so I did not tell them I was coming. I actually hid in the back with all of the fans for the first hour.

Note the "fun" at MISS practice and contrast that to Kelly's way.

"Auburn offered me last Saturday. Notre Dame offered me on Thursday and Stanford the week before that."

Notre Dame and Stanford are two prestigious academic institutions. How are Whitehead's grades?

"I have roughly a 3.78 Core GPA and a 23 on the ACT. I plan to retake the ACT soon because I was pretty disappointed in my score. I know I can do better than that. People laugh at me sometimes, but I think school is fun. I love to learn and just play football. That is my life, really."

...

Jermaine has not visited Notre Dame yet but hopes to in the future.

"I am definitely going to try and get up there this summer for a camp. Coach Tony Alford has been recruiting me real hard. He is a good guy. I have not had a chance to talk to the whole staff yet, but I do talk to Coach Alford a lot. We facebook each other a lot too. He just tells me that it is an honor to play for Notre Dame. This is probably the biggest thing that has happened for this community in a while, having somebody get offered to play football at Notre Dame. I am taking it very seriously, but the one thing that is lacking is that comfort level and that security. If I feel that on my visit it would be a great place to play."

What kind of security is he looking for? Kelly isn't going to be fired, cb posistion is wide open with Kelly making it obvious that the best players will play.

The schools he's listed at the top were local schools he grew up following and that he's been to and apparently felt comfortable with. He recently changed his #1 based upon a recent visit. I read his comments that he know little about ND campus life so doesn't have the feeling of fitting in (comfort and security) at this point that he has with the others.

With all the canned responses we usually see about academics, coaches, PT, and weight rooms I thought his comment made a lot of sense.

I have some film on this kid. He has talent. Loose hips and no wasted steps in coverage. I would love to see a kid from the 'Sip' at ND. Been a while for this state. I say Miss St will end up being a front runner before long. Coach Mullen and staff visit in state schools often and tell us the same things..."we want Mississippi kids going to the state of Mississippi school AKA Miss St, not that school up north (talking about Ole Miss, but he will not say Ole Miss). Mullen is working overtime to get this kid.

ESPNU 150 Watch List cornerback Jermaine Whitehead of Amanda Elzy (Greenwood, Miss.) has given a Class of 2011 pledge become a Bulldog.

The 6-foot, 185-pound standout chose MSU over offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Mississippi, Southern Mississippi, Stanford and Memphis.

He told ESPN affiliate Web site BullDawgJunction.com, "Mississippi State just had that home feel. Now my mother doesn't have to worry about me and my family can watch me play not far from home. My brothers and cousins went to school there so I've been familiar with Mississippi State for awhile now."

Last fall, he amassed 1,200 yards of total offense and accounted for 17 touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 32 tackles and three interceptions. Whitehead also returned one kickoff for a score.

Mississippi State has five commitments.

Interesting ND is still after Jermaine Whitehead trying to convince him there is life outside the Mississippi state lines.
