Ron Powlus made an evaluation visit to his school last week, no ND offer.

6-3, 194 with a 4.36 combine time. RB/OLB in HS. Unless he has hands of stone could be a lot of things in college depending on growth, RB/WR/S/LB/DE. Wherever, he'll be quick.

GPA is low for ND and don't know if that 1400 SAT is a 2 part or 3 part score. With that GPA I'd guess a 3 part score.

From looking at the 2009 Scout CombineResults webpage, Furman's 4.36 looks like the fastest 40 run at a Scout combine. The other low times were predominately shorter, skinnier CB types.

ESPN and others report Furman has verballed to Michigan. He's got speed (4.36 combine 40) and is a leaper (40" vertical).

Curious...how does he hold offers from Duke and Syracuse with a 2.4 GPA?

Duke has a fine academic reputation but I don't recall them having admissions requirements like Stanford or ND, do you?

As for Syracuse, when have they ever required anything over the NCAA minimum?

Furman qualifies per NCAA GPA/Test requirements.

He will, more than likely, be used to fill the void that graduating senior Stevie Brown had. What Michigan now refers to as a 'Spinner', kinda a hybrid LB/DB.

He's seems well suited for that role.

He does. Interesting note, most Michigan faithful hated Stevie Brown for his blown plays his Jr. year, but in this spinner position, he was probably one of the few bright spots on our otherwise disappointing D for his Senior year.

I was thinking the same. Didnt even remember hearing this kids name..... but those measurables at a combine, for a HS kid is just..... wow.

Powlus made an evaluation visit to his school last May but despite Furman's physyical talents and ND's needs he was never offered.

After that initial report I don't recall ever seeing any others on him in connection with ND. I noticed in one of the recruiting services (Scout?) that he had gotten a 17 on a retake of his ACT in October. I suspect ND's Admissions Department was the reason for no offer and not the coaching staff.

Best wishes to the young man and may he have a solid career with an least one loss per season, early each season.

Yes, best wishes to this young man, BUT hopefully he'll have at least 7 loses (including aginst ND) each season! Muck Fichigan ... I hate those bastards!

I think the concensus will be 6-6 for the skunkbears next year... unless they upset us.

Their secondary is gone and a freshman QB is still a freshman QB.

Good thing he's a Sophomore, Gardner, IMO will not start over Tate that early in the season.
