09 IL DE Michael Buchanan

G

Golden Domer93

Guest
Strongside defensive end
Homewood (IL) Homewood Flossmoor

Ht: 6-foot-6
Wt: 220 lbs
Class: 2009 (High School)

This kid was recruited highly as a junior. He is from the same school as former Hoops standout Julian Wright.

Two teammates from last season Supo Sanni and Russell Ellington are not at Illinois.

Just wondering if Buchanan has or will get an offer from the Irish.

Seems like the experts are divided as to Buchanan's upside. Rivals has him the highest as the #18 DE, Scout has him #50 DE and ESPN listed him as the #91 DE. He's a 4 star on Rivals page and a 3 star on Scout's. I like the offer. Hope it's not too late to get in on this kid. We certainly need to take a few risks at DE and see if any of them pan out. If Rivals has him listed that high, they certainly see a lot of upside in him. ESPN's notes on him say that he has a great frame that should be able to put on quite a bit of weight (which he'll need since he's listed at 220).

Also, to all of the pundits slamming Charlie for losing Pollard...your beloved Urban Meyer lost a highly rated recruit over the weekend too. Nick Kasa, a top rated DE who looked great at the US Army All American game, switched from Florida to Colorado yesterday.

He would have great size with an added 30 pounds or so.

Should be a pass deflecting machine at 6'6

Made a mistake. Ricals actually has Buchanan as the 15th rated Strongside DE.

Great point sportallyr...

Meyer lost one, Carroll lost his big TE to UCLA, and Charlie lost one. It's recruiting. They are 17 and 18 years old. In the end the kid didn't want to leave home. It happens to everyone.

Then Meyer should be fired! He's now a horrible recruiter!!! And so should Carroll; the TE he lost is a stud, and losing that kid now shows me that he is the worst recruiter in America.

kidding of course

One difference...Meyer and the Poddle finish STRONG as hell. They will both have top 5 classes this year! While we will be lucky to be in the top 20!

Dude, relax, it was a joke. Read the fine print. Those 2 are the top recruiters out there. The fact that I have to explain the joke is ridiculous. Oh, and here's another thing: THEY CAN RECRUIT ANYONE THEY WANT!!! The fact that CW got the classes he got the past 3 years says all you need to know about the guy as a recruiter. He's done a helluva job considering his on-field lack of success and the restrictions placed on him. Where was everyone when we got the top class last year and a top 5 2 years ago? Where was everyone when guys like Wood, Evans, Stockton, etc signed? Are you guys pissed off about what B. Smith, Floyd, Tate, Clausen, Robinson, Rudolph, Johnson, etc are doing on the field? All these guys CW brought in and all have All-American potential. Was he a bad closer with those guys? Like it's been said, EVERYBODY loses recruits. Nature of the beast. We haven't lost any more than many other programs, yet i don't hear about those other coaches being bad closers.

Lucky to finish in the top 20? I guarantee you we finish in the top 20. We've got some real studs coming in. Losing one recruit won't drop us that far. Again, the kid wanted to be closer to home. He waffled in the first place. He wasn't even ours in the 1st place. He probably would've transfered to be closer to home anyways. You're going to blame that on CW? Is he the reason our economy is in the dumps too?

You should be saying, what is CW going to do with these athletes? Are we going to keep losing to the Navy's and Syracuse's of the world? That's where you should be killing CW IMO...

yep, jeremy is right though. those two are finishers, they dont just start out strong like charlie. we need to pull in two more recruits to even get into the top 10, which im guessing is what charlie expects every year. hopefully we somehow pull three. ND needs to lower its academic standards back to were they were in the Holtz era, and recruiting would be much easier for charlie, because even he doesnt like admissions at times.

on the imporant note though, glad to see we went and offered a plan B guy, hopefully he turns into something really good for ND.

I am not saying we will drop that far from losing one kid but other teams will jump us. It happens kids change their minds I just wish it was not on defense!
