Just came out with a top 4 of LSU, Miami, Florida and yes Notre Dame. I would assume an official visit is in order. Gotta like that we're the only up north team he is considering so that might mean he really has to like ND right? Miami legacy, but I don't care theres always hope.

No USC! Nice. He's #1 on my O-Line wish list. Well, tied with Forst. I just think we could use a tackle rather that a guard (Page).

I'm still a little leery about the guard situation actually, seeing as three guys initially recruited to play at guard (Nuss, Nwankwo, Stewart) are currently slated to play defense. We've only got two true guards in Olsen and Carufel right now, so I personally think the bigger need is at guard. Maybe I have more faith in the Young, Webb, Romine, Dever, and hopefully Clelland in the future, but thats just me.

Still, Patchan would be a monumental get - a real difference maker at OL. He's got great footwork, and we know he's a tremendous athlete. Usually, its much better to be a smaller athlete, and work on size, than it is to be a bigger dude, and work on athleticism. I'm staying cautious about him, but he's definitely a better prospect than any other OLineman to receive an offer.

-------I think with all the D-lineman we're getting next year should move all those O-line turned D-line commits from the 07 class back to the Offensive side of the ball making it a deep position for once.

Point taken, and I've thought as much myself. Even at that, when a guy is playing on defense, you can't really count on him as an offensive lineman. As of today, there are 2 true guards on this roster. There could be 5 by tomorrow if Weis changed his mind. You sort of have to take the roster for face value, moreso than opinions. But I do see your point - I'm guessing at least one of them gets moved back to offense before all is said and done.

If we get Matt Patchan, we'll have the number one offensive line for 2008 and will we ever run the ball down the throats of our opponents. And Yes, I've heard about Nebraska and The Ohio State!

Even though it is very unlikely, I disagree with you. Ohio State would be hard to beat because of Brewester, Adams, and Shugarts. Nebraska has three really nice lineman, but IMO no superstars like Patchan or Adams. If we pulled in any two man combo of Forst, Page, and Patchan along with Clelland, I think are class would be on par with Nebraska and OSU. Especially when you consider that Cave will probably end up a top 5 center and many people say Golic is one of the top o-lineman in the northeast.

IF we were to get a player like Patchan our lineman class would maybe be top 5. It wouldn't be better than OSU or Nebraska. Trevor Robinson is a superstar lineman for sure. And I would bet that USC would end up with a better O-line class than us. They have struggled pulling in lineman in the past so they don't have as much of a depth issue there. And even with depth issues they still pull in top players. Plus Tyron Smith is one of their "locks".
Golic... I'm happy to have him but after watching his highlight film there was one problem... there were no HIGHLIGHTS. Where are the pancakes?? Plays too soft.

"superstar" is a stretch for a guy who rounds out the bottom of the top 100 on both recruiting sites. if he is a superstar, then so is Clelland who has received comparable, if not better, ratings by those sites.

We're going to have a very "solid" and "strong" O-line haul this season. I don't think we'll take 5 O-lineman at all. I think Cave is vastly underrated, but don't let your homerism get in the way of reality bringing in Patchan would make it an amazing O-line haul, but still OSU has like 3 Patchans and Nebraska still has the 2nd best O-line Haul ON PAPER. Ours could turn out better but I'm referring to rankings, which don't mean anything so I'm very happy with the guys we have. Golic won't see playing time immedietly and he'll probably be the hardest worker so he's the best type of project you could have.

Patchan finishes like Jeff Faine used to. Not being a homer, he is just the top O-Lineman in this class IMO, whether he becomes a catholic or a convict. My post was under the assumption that we would land two of those guys, which isn't likely, when you consider we probably don't 'lead' with any of them.

Don't know if this has been posted:

How is Mike Adams (98) a superstar lineman but Trevor Robinson (86) isn't? (Per Rivals) Once Clelland is done with wrestling he'll be able to put on the weight he needs to be an absolute monster.

He's top ten on Scout, and he had offers from pretty much every big school in the country(USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, one of the few legit Florida offers, etc...). The only reason he's so low on Rivals is because he committed so early and because he isn't from the south, and Rivals tends to favor southern prospects. Adams offerlist is second to no one in the country.

I think this is a really good year for lineman. Seems like nationwide, the pool for elite talent goes 15-20 deep. Also seems like there's a huge number of elite tackles this year. You don't really hear that much about guards or center prospects.

Anyways, I hope you guys get Patchan. I hate Miami.

OSU and Nebraska would be hard to pass this year. But, if we can land Patchan, I think it could be argued that our three year haul at OL rivals any in the country.

On Scout they dropped ND from a team Patchan is considering. I know Scout is the worst on keeping up to date and being right on schools of interest and how interested in a school they are, but we are in his top 8 still right? Is he making a summer visit as well?

Pay no attention to the scout database profiles they are almost always wrong or terribly dated.

Patchan will be visiting ND later this month. He publically stated that he will not play in the Pac-10 (Because it's weak) and the Big-10 (Too slow) so him coming up to visit ND is a very good sign IMO that he doesn't lump us in with the Big-10.

The Big-11 is too slow for an OL. That made me laugh.

Great news that he's visiting this month. Anyone have the date? He's the only OL left that I want ND to get, otherwise I want them to use a scholarship somewhere else.

I'm just disappointed we didn't get J.B. Shugarts (O$U commit). He'd be a shoo-in for the All Name Team.

------Eh, Rivals only has Clelland one spot behind him in tackle rankings so I'm happy we got our boy. Besides Shugarts personality = Not an ND kid.

I was only kidding because of the awesome name. I just found out that he's from Chris Stewart's HS, though.
