Yes, because it's a middling conference that screwed us out of a CFP spot. There's one legit title contender in the conference this year (UGA). But five teams made it because of $$$$$. That's it.

No, my point is that the A&M game cost us the playoffs. And we would have had decent odds to win it all. We weren't making the playoffs in 2016, and certainly weren't winning it all.

I suspect the committee knew it too. The ranking wasn't about quality, it was about distributing revenue to stakeholders.

Both Alabama and OU are middling (and worse than ND and Miami) but one of them has to win. I'd expect Bama, because OU won the first time and got lucky. OU jumping ND was as bizarre/unjustifiable as Bama doing so.

I agree, although it's an open question whether the O Line will be playing at that level. They were emphatically not ready for the Miami game and it was a big part of our offensive struggles.
