My son (13) lost a good friend last week to an accident in his home. It's been an incredibly difficult time for his family, our family and the small community we live in. It's impossible as a parent to understand, let alone, try to help your kids to understand.

Right, I guess I was sort of asking how powerful is the 40 year plan pitch? The assumption that football doesn’t work out, can these players rely on their ND degree or connections for life? Or even regular students?

Legitimate question, having not gone to ND or really knowing anyone with an “elite” education, does a ND degree really carry that much clout?

Is this one of those things where everything is more based on the eye test and intangibles rather than competition results? Having BCS selection committee flashbacks…

I didn't say it was the only thing that matters. Obviously Bama and Georgia have multiple NC trophy's to wave in front of kids. They also have Nike swag, and new high-end facilities to wave in front of kids. But looking cool, gear, what number you get, all that stuff matters to kids.

As much as us old heads don’t want to admit it, that stuff matters to 17-18 year olds.

It’s more likely that ND says fine, we’re joining the Ivy League.

I imagine if he’s a NFL quality corner, he has two years either way. If he sits a year and plays great in his 4th year, he’s off to the NFL regardless. That’s why it doesn’t make sense to redshirt most any player with real NFL aspirations.
