I would agree that a smart businessman would take this approach but I’d have to believe even the upfront money has some strings attached. Another thing to keep in mind that in AL, you can’t legally sign a contract until you’re 19 so Deuce would have to set up another legally responsible party...

Just read an interesting post from a coach in Alabama talking about the Deuce situation with Auburn. Apparently Auburn is offering a substantial upfront payment but not much has been offered down the road. The financial offer from ND is much more contractually oriented with Deuce being offered...
