This isn’t about beating NIU. Nobody is concerned about beating NIU. This is about creating an offense that can beat the better teams we’ll play and in the playoffs. This is the best practice they’ll get to do that. Riley running is part of that.

I love the way he called that drive. Get the big guy moving, don’t rely on his arm too much. If it’s not there, tuck it and run.

They have too. They have to get to an offense that has rhythm. That involves running him. Because he won’t be able to just stand back there and pick apart defenses.

Those are the passes he missed too often.

52-13. They’ll try to work the passing game early with mixed results. But the run game comes easy over time. ND runs for 250+ yards. A lot of big plays on the ground. ND’s defense puts them in difficult spots all afternoon. Short fields makes for easy points. Big win.

Seems like a phenomenal young man. Always rooting for him. He is going to destroy some cupcakes with his athleticism but he will continue to struggle to complete passes and be efficient against better competition. Just who he is. Just have to keep hoping that on those days/nights the rest...

Huge win! But need a different offense if we’re going to beat teams with better offenses.

Weismann was so fucking terrible. I never thought he was any good but he was remarkably useless.

The conversation the entire year will be how much do they need to run Leonard to get offensive production. They likely feel like they need to “protect” him to some degree. But are realizing that it’s a necessity to his success.

The beauty of week 1.

Folks got way too hyped about Leonard. I tried to post about it and nobody wanted to hear it. This team will have to make up for Leonard’s inability to consistently deliver the ball. My biggest gripe with the off-season is this should surprise no one but especially the coaches on our team...

On Leonard, this is just who he is. That was an awful throw. I once said he’s a brick thrower. He really is. Denbrock is going to have to scheme around it and the other parts of the team will have to make up for it at times. Like now, with the running game.

I think Elko is a very good coach. And, their environment and talent makes for a tough matchup. But Elko is going to need games before this team is what he wants. No reason an ND team in year 3 with Freeman shouldn’t be ready to take this game. We should have a culture in place that is ready...
