It’s hard to believe this is the same OC that was at LSU

Shock - the play above everyone now hates - is literally how Daniels won the Heisman at LSU. It’s been a Denbrock staple for years.

The issue is who is running it. Greathouse is average and can execute it but for a 20 yard gain at times but he’s rarely gonna catch it in stride or at an elite clip. At LSU, Nabers and company were getting separation and piling up big plays. The most likely person they can give that LSU offense is Graham and Burress. Someone who bursts through the route and also can yank it out of the air as a back shoulder throw. Apparently Graham cannot as we’ve seen it a few times. Burress, let’s try it.

I understand he won with LSU and Daniel’s but he has to know that we need to be more creative.

Freeman has to see that as well.

Also had just better receivers. Thomas and Nabers>Gilbert and Faison (Included Gilbert here because Thomas was their boundary)

I think an underrated disappointment with Denbrock and the offense is the complete lack of run after catch opportunities. Almost everything is just catch and go down/out of bounds.

This is contributed to our limited route tree by WRs due to play calling. Where are the crossers, screens, or play action? We have mastered the hitch and back shoulder/slot fades. We need to scheme WRs into space to give them a chance for some YAC but instead we keep doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I can tell you made this by yourself :)

Good stuff. I didn't go to this level but in my re watch i noticed carr identifying where he wants to go pre snap whether it's open or not post snap. As you mention, he had a lot more time than he took with a clean pocket to go through reads. I love that he can identify the right spot to go pre snap, but a lot of times it's not even close to being open post snap. To sum up, we have a lot of open receivers/tes/rbs if he would go through his reads rather than predetermining where he's going.

My observations from the above

- 2x2 or Empty usually half the play is double slants/posts and half is a quick game variation. They completed a lot of these but did not complete a single slant/post to the inside receiver. He only threw the inside slant once and it was batted down. He did not connect on a backside/inside dig/post once all day, and these have typically been money. Glasker and Satuala really really neutralized this - they could teach our D - but Carr was just off too.

- In Trips or Empty they run a ton of Stick, Spacing or Four Verts w/ option routes. In short just get open based off leverage. Besides one drop Greathouse really balled on this. I could see how much option route stuff they do in this section being what keeps the young guys off the field. But there is plenty of other plays to be had out there.

- By my count they ran some variation of a slot fade 7 times. Only once was it completed, one PI and it was an incompletion in the red zone 5 times. The one completion was not in the red zone.

- They ran 5 or so crossing type concepts and only the Gilbert 4th down conversion was completed.

Dale - Did we hit anyone on the run in stride (not falling down) where they could continue running and make something happen after the catch? I don't think so. I remember our two biggest gains, first play to faison was a hitch where he made someone miss and tip toed the line, and the greathouse big gain was CJ extending the play and hitting greathouse uncovered (but still not on the run).

Just crazy to me with CJ's accuracy, throwing it 49 times, we're not able to hit players on the run. This to me goes back to CJ locking in on the first read pre snap vs trusting the line and his reads to let the plays develop. Yeah, you probably risk maybe getting sacked, but we are terrible at explosives and need them vs good teams. Our pass pro (outside of final 2 minute drive) was too good to not hit big plays in the pass game.

Not with real room to run no. They hit the drag to Gilbert for the final first down as well as the slant to Gilbert before the spike. The other mesh call Carr threw the “alarm” vertical instead. A couple of the deep cross, in routes were left short because it’s the times he did invite pressure so caught or not wasn’t YAC to be had. They covered the seam well and let the cross be the open hole one as well. Faison as mentioned is really the only one who catches the hitch, turns and goes. There were missed big YAC opportunities on inside slants.

You know who has ran after catch on a deep cross and has taken a hitch turned and gone in limited sample? Elijah Burress. Risk the inside routes more - the play calls are there - and play Elijah Burress. Those are my changes based off information on hand.

Email this to someone on staff please, I have a feeling their IE consumption has dropped recently.
