The scheme is not consistent, which is causing the players to guess a bit. They will call a man scheme and have success then immediately roll into a zone scheme, only to give up a big play. Golden trusted his players, Ash thinks his play call will make the difference.

Very similar to how Marcus Freeman rolled into his Defensive Coordinator position at Purdue. He began as a Co-DC when they brought in an outside coach to share duties with him. Worked out okay for Freeman, not so much for the other guy.

Growing pains as a staff are still very present. The question is how long are they tolerated. New AD is coming and will need a reason to keep this staff around, as he will likely want “his guy”.
