Shanahan

Reports out of Denver today are that Notre Dame has contacted Shanahan. Reports said he was offered 3.5 million a year!.

Pat Bolan (Broncos owner) said the Bronco job is his as long as he wants it.

I don't know how much if any of this is true but Fox reported it. I never thought this guy was a real possibility, but if ND is willing to pay him 3.5 million a year, he's certainly a possibilty.

Hope this is all true!

You think Shanahan would even have to leave south bend to recruit. I think kids would line up to play for this guy. I dont know if the reports are right, but just sunday I heard that if denver didn't make the playoffs Shanahan might leave. Now they didnt mention ND but they did say he might leave Denver. And if you remember someone asked him about three years ago what he'd like to do when him days with the Bronco's were over, he said he might like to coach on the college level. So I wont read to much into this, but it does give me hope that espn will be eating a very large crow.

Reports this morning quote Shanahan saying last night that he intended to honor the remaining four years of his contract. Does that mean he's not interested? Nope. But does it mean the media (ESPN) will pile it on to the other coaches that have snubbed the Irish? Yup.

I don't know... sounds like to me a nice way to say he isn't interested.

Well, the only reason you can't rule it out is because historically, it's not that unusual for a coach to deny interest in a job until the contract is negotiated and everyone's signed on the dotted line. But you're probably right. The thing that burns me about it is that the media will crucify ND if it comes to light that they failed to contact big name coaches, but they'll crucify them all the same if they do make an obligitory phone call and for whatever reason, the coach isn't interested.

Notre Dame cannot pay a coach 5mil a year. I, again, see no reason to think we really talked to him. And if we did, we're going to need to dig up at least 50mil to pay him.

As a huge Broncos fan and an even bigger Irish fan, I would be thrilled if we landed Mike Shanahan. The current Denver off. coordinator, Gary Kubiak (a lifelong NFL backup to John Elway) would almost certainly step up and take over as head coach of the Broncos.

We would land so much talent with Shanahan...talk about knowing what it takes to make it to the next level. He has 2 frekin super bowl rings!

True, but I think at this point Gruden has more cache with the kids than Shannahan. His rings are on the verge of being a decade old, the Bucs title is still fresh in the minds of recruits...plus "Chucky" seems like he'd be able to recruit the kids better.

Does anyone really think that Shanahan or "Chucky" are REALLY interseted in coaching at ND??? Sounds like more innuendo to me. We will soon be reading about the two latest names to turn down the Irish!

well, keep in mind that it's ALL speculation. be wary of any news report that refers to "a source close to the program." i'll guarantee that there's an extremely limited number of people that know the Irish agenda, and it's in none of their best interest to leak it to the press. frankly, i don't the the irish or shanahan/gruden are interested in each other. but when a media outlet speculates about the Irish being interested in Shanahan, for example, it's in his best interests to deny it. he doesn't want to be the coach that the irish considered and then passed up, so he'll deny his interest outright. and it works in the coach's favor, because while the Irish remain tight lipped about the search, he can publicly say he's not interested even if he's never even been contacted. it's public relations 101.

It would be nice to have Shanahan but I dont think it will happen, and I have not seen anything saying ND is even in contact with Shanahan. What I do know is Thursday we talked to Tom Clements and today we talked to Charlie Weis. I think it will come down to those 2. There both NDers, and I really think we'll be lucky to get either of them. Clements has done a great job putting life in a Buffalo offense, And Weis, well enough said. ( He made Tom Brady, and has won Super Bowls scoring alot of points with an average cast Brady,Faulk,Smith,Patten,Brown,Givins)

From the New England Website, Patriots Vice Chairman Jonathan Kraft
"I think we've been pretty consistent that if Charlie Weis has an opportunity to get a head coaching job in the NFL or in college, we support him in that," Kraft told Patriots.com radio Friday. "I think Charlie Weis would be a great head coach. I know he feels close to Notre Dame from his days there as a student. Charlie Weis is a great coach, and I think the one thing I will tell you about Super Bowl rings - they give us piece of mind - when you're a college coach and you're trying to recruit, you walk in that living room, and if you have one ring on the right hand and one on the left hand, and you couple that with getting kids other guys can't get, and you couple that with Charlie Weis' creative mind, I think he'd be a great choice for Notre Dame.

"Weis is a great football coach who we hope gets the opportunity to be a head coach. We think he deserves it."

I live in Middle Village, which isn't to far from Woodhaven. I hate the Mets, I'm a big Yankee fan, and I root for the Bills in football, because the Jets and Giants play in New Jersey, LoL.

Weis needs to be the guy. I like Clements but I think Weis has the experiance we need right now. Eventually, Clements will be here, but I think its in the school's best interest to hire Weis now. Kraft makes a good point about those rings on his fingers when he goes recruiting. Name one kid who wants to play college ball and hasn't the slightest aspiration of going to the NFL. This guy knows what it takes to get there...and he's worked under some of the greatest coaches in history (Parcells and Belichek). He's the guy.

Yes, Gruden could relate better to the kids...heck, he's only in his 30's himself. But Shannahan is out of the picture anyway. Check out the story fresh off of the Broncos website. Another one bites the dust, but in this case, he was never even contacted. :banghead2

Refuting the Rumors

Shanahan Has 'Never Talked' To Notre Dame
By Andrew Mason
DenverBroncos.com

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The questions were inevitable, and Head Coach Mike Shanahan responses were emphatic.

One day after Fox Sports Rocky Mountain broadcast a report saying that Shanahan and the University of Notre Dame had been in contact about the school's vacant head-coaching posision, Shanahan denied any contact with the school and reaffirmed his desire to remain as the Broncos' sideline boss for the four years that remain on his contract.

"I've never talked to Notre Dame," Shanahan said following the team's Friday afternoon practice. "I was hoping that people would actually talk about the Miami Dolphins this week and not rumors and speculation. The thing that disappoints me (is) there's no truth to it at all. I haven't talked to anybody."

Shanahan denied the rumors, just as he rebuked speculative reports that linked him to the University of Florida and the Miami Dolphins last month.

"I think I said it a month ago -- that I was not interested in Florida," Shanahan said. "When the Miami rumors came out, I said I was not interested in that job. I've got four years left on my contract and I plan on fulfilling my contract."
