What does everyone think about the possibility of Spurrier returning to Florida next season? What about how Zook got treated... was it justified?

Discuss.

I believe he is Florida's top choice right now. He know the system and he feels comfortable there. He shouldn't have left in the first place. :footballh

I hope he does go to Florida so we can still have our shot at Meyer.

You guys are that sold on Urban Meyer? Bowling Green and Utah are far from Notre Dame. What makes Meyer so attractive?

He's a proven winner and the fact that he can win at those schools makes him a very good possibility. People are going to be wearing Utah red to the Pitt game to make a statement to Ty. Look for it.

I couldn't agree with irishtexan10 more!

I'd love for Notre Dame to land Urban Meyer. Ty has done a decent job, but last year was horrible and I don't feel like we're recruiting like we have in the past. I believe Notre Dame and Michigan are the only programs that will allow Urban Meyer to exit his contract with Utah prematurely. Fingers are crossed!

Urban Meyer is such a hot coach right now! His success with Utah is awesome. I like him because he is doing great things for Utah and maybe he will be able to bring back greatness to the Notre Dame program. Ty has been mediocre at best, although his 2002 season was great. I'm just tired of losing to Boston College and USC. And you can add Purdue to that list as well. As Irish fans we're tired of meritocracy and we want more.

I'd be content for now if we could just be ranked in the top 15 throughout the year. But we're lucky to crack the top 25 and the BCS is completely out of the question. Time for a change if the coach is right.

Remember that we had great coaches come from nobody schools. I think it was either Rockne or Parsegian that came from Northwestern.

True, but with the mass media and information age, that is more difficult to find coaching gems. You never know, though.

Do you think Ty just got a repreive in beating UT?

Urban Meyer does look great. The thing I like most about him is that Notre Dame is his dream job. I never got the feeling Ty was excited about coming to ND, I think he just felt it was an upgrade over Stanford and a quicker way into the NFL. To coach at ND you have to love ND so you can sell it to recruits like holtz did. I'm very down on Ty with his recruiting. Ty's gonna be back at least another year, I doubt Meyer will take the Florida job he's in no rush to take any job. He has the priveledge of waiting for an ideal job to open up, LIKE ND. Hopefully Ty goes to the 49ers after the season and we can get URBAN! It's possible Bill Walsh loves TY and erikson is getting canned at the end of the year.....

It would be nice to see Ty leave on his own terms, say to the pros. He's happy, we' re happy and we could get a Big time coach ala Meyer, Tedford, etc. :awesomewo

I don't think Ty gets too much credit for the Tennessee win. Don't get me wrong, I love wins against top ten teams like UT and Michigan, but those quality wins are kind of washed out with losses to BYU and BC. I really hate Boston College (I can't wait until next year when they join the ACC and get beat on a regular basis by FSU, Miami, etc.). But Ty's still in the doghouse for me after a 5-7 season last year. Now a win over top ranked USC would go a long way, but we better not stumble against Pitt.

I also agree. Meyer noy only makes the program appealing to recruits, he gets the community and parents involved. Its been a lonh time since we had that in South Bend.

Spurrier is not going back to Florida according to the press here in Tampa, but he may just be waiting to let all the hype die down.

Urban Meyer would be a great choice and he can sell ND unlike Ty has done. You do have to love ND and all that goes with it. ND cannot settle for another average coach, the time is now to really "return back to GLORY".

Average coaches have no place at NOTRE DAME. Ty is average, better than Davie, yes, but this is NOTRE DAME and if average is now the status quo at ND, count me out. ND has lost three home games again in a season. No one is impressed anymore by coming into South Bend and playing in the house that Rock built, its just another date on the schedule. Young kids today playing college football no nothing about ND winning all those National Championships because it did not happen in their lifetime and ND has not even won a bowl game in 10 YEARS. The last time they were even seriously ranked in the top 10 was probaly due to charity of the univiersitys good name and when it still ment something in college football (outside of the 8-0 start). Did you see the Pitt players mocking the ND home crowd???? I remeber when teams upset ND they acted as if they won the Super Bowl or National Championship, now it is just another win. ND losses against unranked teams should not be consided upsets while being "average" across the board is good enough for this program. A coaching change should only be the start of changes needed to get this team back to national prominance. Remeber when NOTRE DAME was always in the running to win the National Championship? Now we can't even get in a "Somebody.com Bowl Game, let alone a BCS bowl. This is NOTRE DAME is'nt it????

Press reports today say Spurrier is heading to South Carolina as Lou will retire at the end of the season.
