The last time we beat Boston college.......

I agree. I can't believe we lost to them...again. I'm still not over the loss 10 years ago that knocked us out as the #1 ranked team and took our chance at a National Title.

But truthfully, my best ND memory is our win over Florida State and Charlie Ward 10 years ago. That's my best memory and it was short lived thanks to BC. Dam those Eagles!!! :soapbox: :soapbox:

My Favorite Irish Moment

My Favorite Irish Moment

In 1986 Notre Dame travels to USC. And they are down 17 points with 12:26 left in the 4th quarter.

USC punts the ball with 3:00 left on the clock and Irish are down by only 2 points.

Mr. Everything Tim Brown fields the punt some where around the ND 30 returns it to the USC 19.

And with seconds left John Carney makes the field goal and th IRISH win ny 1 point.

GO NOTRE DAME!!!!!!!! :clover:

ANY win over USC !
Most of them were great games to watch.
I live in Pac 10 territory and any win in Pasadena is truly glorious - the glow lasts for the whole year!

When the Irish beat Texas A&M in '92 at the cotton bowl. I was a young kid at the game and watched Jerome Bettis run all over the Aggies when he had the flu. Anyone remember Ron Powlus? He sells insurance now in PA.

I have several 'favorite' memories of ND football. But my personal favorite was the 1973 Sugar Bowl against Alabama. The Alabama place kicker had made every extra point he ever attempted there at 'Bama with the exception of this game. The late field goal by ND to win it is and was what college football has always been about for me. Another fond memory was the comeback Joe Montana engineered over Houston in the Cotton Bowl. Anybody remember either of these?

Do I? How about this one? ND beats 'Bama 7-0 at Tuscaloosa in '77. Back in the day, there were only a handful of truly great teams not the parity you see now. Nebraska, Alabama, USC, Texas, ND were some of the few who were truly great year in and year out and ND USED TO live for knocking these guys out on a regular basis. Now it is an UPSET if we do.

How about great quarterbacks like Tommy Clements and Blair Kiel? Not to mention shutting down Earl Campbell in '77 at the Cotton Bowl, holding him to under 50 yards for the game?

TV:
Definitely Miami in '88. 31-30. Miami went for two to win the game - it was batted down in the end zone. Remember Jimmy Johnson? Man, it was great having a nemesis (that you could actually beat).

On-Campus:
Must have been...1990? Blue and gold game - Holtz was having a banquet for recruits. I was a freshman in high school, but I had a letter jacket, and we just slipped in and watched his speech. Unbelievable. On the way out, we ran into Chris Zorich. The guy was massive. He stopped and signed autographs for everyone standing there. After the game, (on the field) I ran into Zorich again, got autographs from Rocket Ismail (almost talked him into giving away his helmet), Todd Lyte (had a conversation with him on the bench), Don Grimm, Craig Hentrich, Steve Belles, and a little know recruit named Rick Mirer. Still have the autographed program...Those guys were gods...

Beating the Aggies was my first Notre Dame memory. Bettis was unstoppable!

Ron Powlus was a huge underachiever.

The best ever was the 1990 win at home over the Convicts of Miami! Got tix through the alumni club in Evansville, IN and drove up for the game. I remember Jimmy "Yank My" Johnson telling the press he was not afraid to kick to ANYONE when asked about kicking to Rocket Ismail. Needless to say Rocket took one to the house and the Irish held on to upset the #2 rated "Canes. I can still feel it!

ND vs FSU 92'.I dont remember what happend after that it is still blurry.I just remember FSU players saying "we would like to beg the pollster to drop us to number two"AND THEY DID.I think ND had a game after that against BC.I didn't watch just assumed everything went to plan.It was odd we never got the trophy.

There have been many fond ND memories over the last 55 years since I was youngster. My dad got me and my brothers (there are 7 of us) started on ND. We're from EL Paso and that was one of the train stops for ND in the 1930's on their way to LA for the SC game. When he was a kid, he would go watch them workout.

My first game to watch them in person was in the LA Coliseum in 1953. What a treat it was for me as a 12 year old kid to watch the Irish in their green unies kick the crap out of SC 48-14 !! Joe Heap was my favorite player (since he had my initials). I hear Todd Heap who is in the NFL out of Arizona State is a relative of his.

As a matter of fact I attended every SC-ND game at the Coliseum since then except for this past game when I refused to see another Losingham coached team. That sucker made me break my streak. I'm ready to start another one with Charlie W.

GO IRISH!!!

i was just thinking, a couple of years ago there was this kid that was a walk on and played special teams for the irish. he would have played in the davie era, but he wore number 45, like rudy, and he had the most vicious hit on anyone i had ever seen put on a gold helmet. the irish kicked the ball off and he was a wedge buster, so he ran full speed and absolutely knocked the snot out of 2 guys in the middle of the wedge. i think they were playing bc, but i cant remember. his father was a walk on also. you could hear the hit all the way in the press box. they showed it on espn classic, a while back.does anyone know who this kid was?

Classic! I would literally smack someone upside the head for a chance to see Powlus playing beer-league softball.

As for my favorite memory...it would have to be just thinking about how awesome those early 90's teams were. I wasn't a ND fan at the time...but Bettis, Brooks, Mirer, and The Rocket were just scary good.

In terms of my favorite memories as a ND fan...it would have to be any of Willingham's big game wins. The 2 Michigan games & the '04 Tennesee game especially.
