Firefight in Afghanistan

I don't need a federal holiday to show my appreciation to those that continue to serve. I'll never knock a man who didn't choose the military so take no offense when I show a little extra love to those that did. A little taste for those that don't know what it's like.

As a veteran I hope they got out of that ok and I also sincerely hope there was more leadership going on than we can see. Blindly firing over a wall isn't very effective, hopefully someone was flanking the enemy and we weren't just wasting ammo.

I find it kind of sad that firefights can show up online, especially with a commercial attached. Hopefully it was declassified material.

Bless our troops and the USA.

I am not going to judge. Seems like alot of blind firing but i know nothing I just appreciate what they do.

5,000 bullets and 2 dead afghans. Not a very precision based operation they had there.

Couldn't you just say thank you for your service, men and women of the military instead of doing that thing you do on a continual, negative basis?

That video is awesome. Will always have a great respect for those who serve. My school sends a ridiculous number of kids to the service each year, mostly the marines. Thank you all for your service.

You seriously have no idea what is going on nor can you hear them communicate with each other. You have no idea what the mission entailed or if they were ambushed. While I don't think you meant any negativity by your comments, please just appreciate they are there and you are not.

To my brothers and sisters at home and far from it in harms way, God bless. To any nay-sayers: reverence through silence, sans silence, **** you.

Edit: Never thought I'd say this, but +1 Phork.

Amen to the thread Grahambo.

Thanks to our countrys sons and daughters.

May the lord forever show them favor and may we never forget their sacrifices.

We all must plant trees whose shade we'll never enjoy, and these men and women take that to the highest degree: at times sacrificing all they have so we may continuentombe free.

For that I am forever indentured.

All of our veterans at one time or another made the ultimate sacrifice, in that their lives were lesser the important for cause.

Thank-you...

I salute you and admire your bravery.

At some point, you really are just blindly firing down range. Despite what you see in the movies, most individuals will hunker down when rounds are headed even remotely their way. So putting rounds down range(in a very general direction) will usually keep an enemy's head down (allowing your people to maneuver unseen), and also keeps them pinned down, and denies them the opportunity to maneuver against you.

Exactly. And we have no idea what the field commanders on the ground were orchestrating. Presenting a field of fire while tactical ops are commencing else where is just good soldering. Negative comments on the video lack perspective. Arm-chair quarter-ba.. squad mate?

Ummmm I was in the Army for 4 years. Plus it was a JOKE!!!!! You need to lighten up dude and get the sand out of your snatch!

I was stationed in Fort Benning Georgia during the 1996 olympics in Atlanta when that pipe bomb exploded. We had to pull guard duty when that happened. It was the closest I came to any action but I still served my time here and over seas. So believe me I know what it is like to be in the military.

I've come across more firefight videos. Would anybody be upset if I posted some in this thread? I don't want to force anything like this but figure it's a way to help show some respect.

Everyone has a choice to not click on this thread and it is your thread. Do what you want in it.

You should post away.

As I mentioned earlier, I think its weird to see them posted online and I'm not sure that I agree with it but I also know that its your right to do so. FREEDOM, that's what we defend.

GO ARMY!!

AS a marine. (irishmarine, duh) we have no idea what brought this firefight on and having served in both theatres of war **** sometimes pops off so you fight through it and figure out details afterwards.

Suppressive fire is different for every mission.

This is the 2nd half to the video from the first page. Has more communication, some frags, and a close call towards the end. About 5 additional minutes. If the video starts from the beginning and says 11:22 then click around the 5:30ish mark as the first half was already posted.

Keep in mind that most of the guys are 18-25 range. Ever want to know what it's like to be a gunner:

Since we are now posting videos.......This was what I did in my 4 years with the Army. I was the gunner of the AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter.

Disclaimer......this is NOT video of me, I just found it on youtube.

But like I said before I never saw action when I was serving.

Yep that's right, the government trusted me of all people to operate one of these. LOL LOL LOL.

Can't say I saw any action but if there was any I FOR SURE would have been up there with my boys.

The men on the frontline though get mad respect from me. I could not imagine what they see.

Around the 10:20 mark the guy says, " I'll stand up. Watch, they will shoot right at me. They see me easy." Something along those lines. I laughed out loud in amazement at the zero lack of fear these guys have. You always here about them being fearless but to see it first hand is amazing! Thank you folks for your service!!
