Switch to the option or change the requirements for players to get in.

...this made for stimilating conversation;

I understand the view that since the NCAA allows the big football programs to basically serve as the NFL minor league, why wouldn't we do that.

Let me ask you a seemingly unrelated question. Why do you think ND fans are so invested in their sports programs. In comparison to other sports why are the football fans more animated than supporters of the other ND sports...

To me, to stand with ND means believing its not worth it unless you do it the right way. As relates to football, there are so many programs doing it the wrong way, it makes us that much more invested in rooting this team to success...To me rooting for ND directly translates to who I "root for" and support in life...folks who do it the right way. So then, to me, this school, its programs, and in particular, this program are transcendant...wouldn't trade it or being a fan for anything.

...Well, and to me standing with ND is simultaneously jamming my thumb in the eye of USC, Texas, and all the other NFL minor league programs as well as the NCAA for being complete failures in seeking their own damned vision with vigor.

As for the option scheme...see, I think BK has it. He has a framework that encompasses the option, but also allows him to do so much more...He can recruit just about any style of kid with talent, and plug him in...tweek some things and go. Why would you want to have a specific identify other than a winner...as many have said, offenses come and go, Kelly has shown a willingness, and some competence at tailoring his scheme to what he's got...I like that.

I liked the question...not the least offended or frustrated you dared post such blasphemy.

On a general note...seems like PM would be a great place for criticism of the appropriateness of a subject/thread lest ye be a mod. If a crappy thread is sin, to perpetuate it through constant B1tchy posts is sinX10.

I agree with you idea of how BK has the option scheme involved. I think the poster is more discussing a true midline/veer out of the a set with a single back and some wings or tight slots. Qb under center Tight splits for the most part and lots of misdirection. Like Navy and Air Force. They are vastly different than the option BK has.

With that said I think BK is the better more versatile option. He does a good job incorperating the option when he has a qb that can do it. He will do it from the gun and then once his O is ready will use the pistol more. The pistol makes this O so dangerous. Can run lots of option but keep everyone spread out. Still using veer and midline principals.

...makes sense. I wouldn't want to do it like the academies because our o-line should be able to do more than the folks they have to work with up front.

Agree. We have the typical recruit in all positions to be effective here, and I don't see that changing. At times we get a real special kid we can do some things with (Floyd, Tate, Shark) to stress/stretch defenses even more...but if we had a mobile QB with wood, eifert and a couple tomas...death by 1000 cuts baby.

Notre Dame will be an 8-4, 7-5, 9-3,10-2,6-6,7-5,8-4 team on a consistent basis because of the academic requirements. No GOOD coach wants to even touch this place with a ten foot poll because they know they just simply cant get the talent they need to succeed because of admissions.

YOU know it and I know it so just admit it.

SEC recruits speed speed speed. Notre Dame there is hardly any speed. We ALWAYS get smoked by speed and athletism.

Until the day comes to where Notre Dame lowers the standards then just expect to be an average/mediocre football team. But hey, I have been used to this since 1996!

Oh, and it will help if we join a conference. Does not help the fact that we have usually the toughest schedule year in and year out.

Ughhh.

1) Stanford hires a good coach and turns the program into a BCS team. That is at a traditionally doormat school with stricter academic standards than ND.

2) You say speed, I say well-coached. Show me how much fatsre those speedy SEC defenses are at the combine as opposed to any other kid. They are not. Also LSU and Bama>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Than the rest of the SEC and the so called speed.

3) Not directed at you but ND DOES TAKE JUCO"S, the problem is no juco is good enough or academically qualified for the school.

4) Weakening the schedule would turn us into VTech, sure the record would be better but still no respect. Plus getting blown out by Stanford with those crippling academic standards

Is it about respect? You get no respect going 6-6 every year either. VTech showed that filling your schedule with cupcakes and have a strong fan base will get you a BCS game over more deserving teams because its all about the money.

If our goal is to hit the BCS regularly and go for a championship every so often then the schedule needs to be retarded and we need to win as much as possible.

ND's got to be careful of that though. Other schools can play the "o... I can't change my conference" card, which is BS when they schedule 2 1-AA teams non con, but seems to work anyway. If ND played a cupcake schedule they would be (rightfully) called out for it.

Also, who would want to watch that? College football is great because of the close games and heated rivalries. Watch ND play the equivalent of Tulsa (another downside to the cupcake strategy) 6 or 7 games a year? No thank you.
