I just finished watching 'Vietnam in HD' presented by the History Channel. Amazing, simply amazing. I am a history and war buff and was just simply blown away. It had me captivated for sure and some points, in tears.

To those of you that fought over in Vietnam, I salute you and raise one high in your name. From one generation of military to another, I thank you. I don't need a holiday or special occasion to say thank you, just have a desire to do so. God bless, Merry Christmas, and Semper Fi.

Great post for some great American soldiers.

As the columnist Joe Galloway put it, some say the WWII generation is the greatest generation but the Vietnam veterans were the BEST of their generation.

Cheers. To those who have gone before us and would rather fight and die than quite. Army, Airforce, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard.

I agree. I am a war buff, and the Vietnam in HD series was excellent, much better than WWII in HD. Most interesting point was that in WWII, the average days per year in combat was 10, in Vietnam in was 260+. Not to take anything away from wwII vets, but how is that even possible?

I guess war is always better in hd, 3d, or in most of cases real life. Real Life...... No experience like it.

My grandfather graduated from the Naval Academy in 1940 and served during the war fighting in the Pacific. My father entered Army ROTC at Xavier in 1962 and upon graduation they had the new soldiers write down the top three places they'd like to see in the world. Wanting to see the places his own father saw during his service, he wrote down the Pacific. As the legend goes, the folks in charge smiled and said "this guy actually wants to o to Vietnam..."

He did two tours as an forward observer. I imagine that to be the absolute last choice for most people. Literally crawling into the jungle on a daily basis calling in artillery and air support strikes. If the fratricide or North Vietnamese didn't kill you, crawling through the Agent Orange eventually would. Such was the case with my father, died of Leukemia back in 2000.

Where is Walter...err...Whiskey? This is an opportune time for him to crack one of the great lines.

On a serious note, Vietnam was hell from everything I've been taught. I salute all veterans and fallen US soldiers who fought in Vietnam.
