I love the show, but the "farmhouse retreat" seems a little unrealistic (yes, I understand the entire premise of the show is a bit unrealistic to begin with, but assuming it to be true...). They use light, make noise, and, to an extent, come and go as they please, but there is no danger of walkers? I realize it's a secluded, rural area, but so was the rock quarry where they were camped before it was invaded. Perhaps I'm just getting ahead of myself and the farm will be invaded by walkers soon.

Yeah, I know that those places do. I'm not sure about a farm though. The place seems way to stocked with supplies. Didn't Rick eat a sandwich? Where did they get that from? I just don't like the contrast from the first house that Rick is in (with the black father and son) to the farm. The house was completely covered up, and the farm is wide open. The farm just seems way too safe.

The first house Rick was in was a very suburban area. Small town, but still suburban. People in the suburbs are not nearly as prepared (by and large) as those in more rural settings. Most people in more urban environments only shop for a couple days' need at most. People on farms and in outlying areas tend to stock up so they don't have to run in to town all the time. As for the electricity and hot water, the farm might have wind turbine power or even solar. Maybe it is also generators. You don't know, but I can easily believe they would have power, the ability to make bread, have meat, etc.

I do a lot of research on "prepper" websites and it is not hard to believe that people would have than much food saved up. One of the caveats of the Mormon church is that all families have at least a year of food and supplies saved up. As a group, they are some of the most prepared people on the planet. You can find the Mormon preparedness handbook online. Great read and gives so good guidelines about food, first aid, other essentials, and even firearms.

Pretty sure Hershel the Veterinarian and the vast majority of people in rural Georgia are not Mormon though

No, I'm aware of that. Just using is as an example of how plausible it would be that someone might have such a well-stocked retreat like that. I never meant to imply they were mormon.

I have met many people in the prepper community and it is amazing how people are preparing. And it isn't just the gun nuts with the foil hats either. People are seeing food costs skyrocketing and how fragile the economy is both here and in Europe and they are worried. Many very normal people are stockpiling bullets, beans, and band aids to be ready for whatever may come their way.

Bullets and guns will buy, one way or another, all of the necessary supplies to survive.

That's why isolated strings of people must eventually pal-up, or risk being casualities.

Mostly folks with societal ideas of what makes a civilized people work together.

The guns then defend and seldom offend.

They will suspect foul play somehow. Maybe the zombified version of ol' big boy will still show a gunshot wound if they didn't eat all of the guy, prompting the farm to oust the others.

There will be walkers.

The farm will implode somehow.

And Merle will get revenge. That's coming somehow.

I like the fat woman zombie in the well preview. ****in' awesome!

I just watched the preview for the upcoming episode and it looks like Herschel makes it clear that once they find the little girl, the group needs to move on. See some potential conflict there. Thats a pretty cozy place and I can't believe the whole group will be happy about leaving again (mostly Darryl and Andrea).

You have to respect his wishes though. Even though it sucks hard to give up that place. I am sure you could find a dozen farm houses on big plots, fenced in.
What in the hell is that thing stuck in the well?

I could see there being some conflict here, at least with a few members in the group. In this situation, he who has the most (and biggest) guns wins and Herschel and co. haven't shown too much in the way of retreat security. Why go poking around the countryside lookign for someplace else when you have all you need right there? Plus, other farms might be better defended or not as well stocked.

It sounds cold, but in a survival scenario, you stay put regardless of what Herschel says. Just my opinion. Plus, Herschel's medical experience might come in handy again.

I have no idea what that thing is stuck in the well. Wonder if that same well feeds the house with water for the showers and such. Could be some contamination issues with the zombie stew that's at the bottom.

Finally caught up in the series. WOW! can't wait till this sunday, also, any ideas on what the CDC guy whispered at the end of season 1? My guess is still pregnancy, but there could be plenty of other things.

I watched. Looks like next week's episode will have a little more action, thank god. The last couple have been pretty dull.

Something's up with Hershel and his daughter.

-The look he gave her at the beginning when they were meeting at the hood of the truck
-Her disdain/bewilderment at having to kill the walkers
-Her bangin' the dude in the drugstore
-Hershel telling Rick he would consider his request, but there were would be some stipulations
-And maybe that they had a fat, nasty walker living in their well. There had obviously been a disruption to the well cover...but nobody ever noticed or looked??

Things may get real interesting in the next few weeks!

My take on your first two points is that mom is still around somewhere on the farm. Chained up in a basement or in the barn or something like that. The daughter had a bad reaction to killing the walker because she doesn't want her mom to end up like that. Herschel gave her the look over a comment about walkers during the gun discussion, so I am sure that has something to do with it too.

I don't know for sure, but you are right there is something going on there.

If you guys want to know everything that is going to happen, I can dish it out. I've read the entire series.

Some stuff they've already kinda tweaked... one MASSIVE HUGE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD thing of which may be coming up soon.

Seems they are not going with the comics anyway. Darryl is not in the comics.

BTW anyone else get the feeling that he is going to die soon. I hope not because he is a really cool character, but its a vibe I am getting

Please don't tell us what's going to happen without a HUGE spoiler alert tag preceding it.

As far as last night's episode, I wasn't a fan. I have no problem with slow episodes centered around character development. In fact, I love them. But last night's episode just wasn't very good. I was waiting for the pregnancy scare since last season and was really hoping they wouldn't do it since it's so cliche. But the part that I really didn't like was Glenn hooking up with Hershel's daughter. It was the most forced and awkward scene ever. I understand they're lonely but the way the writers threw that scene together it's like they were writing for a porno scene. Hopefully it gets back on track for next week.

What, they have been flirting since they first met. I was expecting them to hook up every time they were alone. Options are limited, about time an Asian gets some play in Hollywood.

haha true. And like I said, I probably would not have had a problem with it if the dialogue hadn't been so bad leading up to it. Glenn waffling after she caught him with the rubbers was funny but she was so cavalier about it that I found it hard to buy into her reluctance to talk about it on their way home. Of course, this is assuming Glenn didn't have an *ahem* mishap.

Yeah, they showed a scene during the show after Walking Dead where he takes a nasty fall and he punctures himself pretty badly with one of his crossbows. Dunno if it is considered "contaminated" or what.

Yeah I'm getting the same vibe. Badass character gets sentimental, dies rescuing object of sentimentality.
