I am really annoyed by Ed Cunningham.

For the most part, I didn't have a problem with what he said. We played like crap and he called it like he saw it. Like others have said, he said our defense improved, and thinks we can beat Stanford (I don't know how he jumped to that conclusion after watching this game, but still). What was obviously false was the stuff about the dorms. It was as if he was recruiting against us. Athletes are supposed to stay in the dorm for 3 years, but a lot of them keep a room on campus and get a place off campus that the university turns a blind eye to. Clausen lived off campus starting his freshman year. Not that there's anything wrong with it. A lot of them come back to the dorm a lot and form good relationships with the regular students.

Can you imagine if an announcer went on and on about how many sunny days a year (71) there are in Seattle during a University of Washington game and explicitly stressed to recruits that they need to strongly consider this? Would that be appropriate? There is no way this would be viewed as acceptable and the same is true of the spin that Ed placed on Notre Dame tonight. It's just plain unprofessional.

Not to mention how he couldn't pronounce Manti and Tyler's last names correctly. When he spoke about the game, no beef there. But he went well out of his way to take a steamy pile of sh!t on Notre Dame as a University. And as an alum, for that, he can go plank in traffic.

He sucks. I don't know that he "hates" Notre Dame, but he is not a good commentator.

This pretty much.

First off, he's a play-by-play guy---he shouldn't really have much of an opinion on the game. Unless you're a legend of the broadcasting booth, it's best to let the color guy handle that part.

The problem with this guy, was that he was so absolute with some of his opinions, too much in your face. It was kind of getting shock jock-ish there for a while---like he's intentionally trying to get people worked up.

The whole TJ catch and then "OMG he has a concussion why is he playing" part was ridiculous. He had zero evidence of neither and he was acting like a baby that things didn't go the way he saw it.

Very unprofessional.

Of course Ed hates us. He is a U of Washington Grad and UW is 0-8 against us all time. So, he really hates us.

i think a case could be made that held a grudge for being recruited by holtz, initially, and not ending up here.

as far as football...he called a decent game. i prefer mayocks color, but he was knowledgeable about the game. he injected a clear biased opinion many times. and i felt both gentlemen in the booth studied all of the negative spin as talking points (floyd's dui, kelly's tantrums, kelly's comments--teams reactions to the comments etc.).

add to this some very wrong statements about the university and you had a very slanted, and flawed broadcast. it was salacious and tabloid filled fodder, that had more of a "brown tint", than actual color.

What is Ed Cunningham's problem

What is Ed Cunningham's problem

I am glad someone else noticed Ed Cunningham's bias against Nore Dame. He at one point was rambling on about dorm room rules and missed at least one play. On a number of other occasions, he made unnecessary comments which seemed to display some internal problem he has with ND. Toward the end of the game he said "I don't mean to diminish Nore Dame's performance...", the went on to diminish Notre Dame's performance. Something in Ed's past definitely caused him to have an anti-Notre Dame agenda.

He just looked like he didn't know that he was talking about when he explained the dorm situation at ND. At least they didn't agree with the personal foul call on the interception return.

Hammond would have most likely have found a way to agree with the call.

I apologize. We'll have to agree to disagree.

I'm surprised your willing to throw yourself on a grenade for this guy. His comments were more than just aimless babbling. It was pretty apparent that he had an agenda, and was deliberately trying to defame Notre Dame IMO.

He also made sure to minimize the Navy win by noting that they did not have their starting QB. How about being fair and noting that the D finally shut down the triple option and beat a team that had won 3 of 4 against ND?

I just don't like all the whining. What's the big deal about what a commentator says?

Spot on. He seemed to be holding an anti ND recruiting campaign. I think he felt slighted by Holtz when he was recruited. I have never heard of the guy until now.

Wait.....Mark Jones called the game? Haven't watched yet. OMFG.

Thats a$$hat thought he was Stuart Scott before Stuart Scott. He used to do some crappy ESPN NBA show I think, where he would end every broadcast with the expression "all that....and a bag of chips." Mid-late 90's. I'm sure it's got to be out there somewhere.

Can't stand that guy.

Just watched the replay. Geez...... I don't think I have ever seen an announcer put such a negative slant against a school he obviously doesn't like.

ultimately, you're correct dillon, it shouldn't matter. at a certain point this all just griping...all of these subjects and the opinions that are interjected. all this is griping/whining to a certain extent.

the issue i have...is the lack of journalistic integrity. there was a clear biased of notre dame. and even though we are the "away team" on this network, it doesn't license the announcers to that level of or any level of condensation of either team.

it's the difference between a reporter and a pundit. people today forget there is a difference because of 24 hour news channels.

this broadcast was salacious, slanderous, and sloppy.
