Williams Pleased With Performance
Jordan Williams has an offer from Ball State and after a strong performance at Notre Dame’s camp on Thursday, it sounded like Irish assistant Mike Elston was wondering why the 6-foot-4, 207-pound Indianapolis wide receiver from North Central High School didn’t have more.
“He asked me what camps I went to and what they said about offers,” Williams said of Elston, who is in charge of recruiting the state of Indiana. “I was like, ‘They’re waiting.
It’s like they’re waiting for the next school to offer.’ I’m just going with the flow.”
Williams camped at Illinois, Cincinnati and Indiana before Notre Dame.
“Illinois, they said they already have four committed receivers, that’s the only reason they weren’t about to offer,” said Williams. “But they said if something changes, they’ll be in touch with me. Cincinnati, they said they’re going to be at my first game. They really liked me too. At IU, I think I got hit in the eye or something and I just couldn’t see, so I have to come back another day.”
Williams felt like he had a very good camp in South Bend, especially considering he had been at less than full strength recently.
“I caught everything and I feel like I was the best receiver in there,” he said. “Routes, I did real good actually. I haven’t been 100 percent, but I felt good today with my cuts and everything. My knee and my groin have been bothering me, but when I got to the camp, it felt good.
“Notre Dame is a hard place to get into for football, but for me to go in there and do better than mainly all of the people in there, gave me more confidence in my abilities.”
That confidence was strengthened even further after speaking with Elston.
“They said they really like me and he said he’s going to message me on Facebook sometime,” Williams said. “They’re going to have their meeting and he’s going to catch up with me on Facebook. He said he’ll talk to me within the next three days. I know they’re going to be calling or I’m going to be calling them. We’re going to get in touch somehow.”
Williams was also impressed with Notre Dame as a program.
“It was great,” he said. “The facilities are nice, the coaching staff was really good. I had a good time at the camp.”
