Its too bad that a good kid like Ian doesn't get drafted but a bunch of illiterate thugs do.

Hey Ian, here is a list of players that were not drafted either and one would be hard pressed to find any NFL team that wouldn’t want these guys on their team. Keep your head up and play with your heart and mind like you did at ND and you will be the diamond in the ruff everyone will be talking about!!!!!!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

That was an awesome read, thank you for posting it. You know, no matter what happens to Ian, he will be very successful in life. It is a huge disappointment he wasn't picked in the Draft, but I really do think he is going to be a good player in the league when it all said and done. the knee injury obviously hurt him somehow because that is the only thing I can think of that would make teams hesitate with him. I think Ian Williams will bring alot of intangibles to a football team as well. He is a leader, talented, intelligent and mature beyond his years. I know that some team in the league will pick him up and give him his shot. It wouldn't surprise me if his name is talked about on Sundays for many years to come. I wish him the best of luck, because he is a fine young man and serves as a model example that hard work does pay off.

I've been following him on WSBT for a few weeks, there should be links to his other posts. It is a nice break from the water cooler talk from the pretentious ****s that hate Notre Dame. The off season is like gossip girl in the bend. I hate it.

Normally, there are one or two hundred undrafted free agents signed immediately after the draft (Indy usually signs about 10-15). On its roster, Indy has about five or six players and three starters it acquired this way.
This is an unusual year because the teams cannot do this.

As I said before in some other thread about the draft prospects of our boys...

Rudy was the ONLY lock. Ian had a shot, but it was a long shot. Too many others on here were blinded by their Irish love to be rational (some said the likes of Walls, Neal would be drafted...laughable).

Ian, best of luck in the future. I wouldn't be suprised to see you in the NFL being a productive player. As Dizzyphil mentioned, you don't have to be drafted to be successful. You're high character guy and will be successful in whatever field you choose.

Ian Williams is pure class. He didn't blame anyone, wasn't bitter, and accepted the disappointment full on. I know he's got an NFL career ahead of him!

I don't see how you say that about Ian. Every analyst on ESPN, NFL Network, CBS, etc. had Ian with a 5th round grade. I just don't see how you could say it was a "long shot" for him to be drafted.

Maybe I just know more than them. HAHHAHA!!

Seriously, I really only thought Rudy was going. Just my gut feeling. Nothing against our guys or Ian. But Rudy was really the only guy that was an "NFL" ready player coming outta ND.

Wait till next year and guys will be clammering for guys like Blanton and Gray to get drafted. Just not gonna happen.

Sorry, but that's not a good reason. "NFL" ready? There were an immense amount of players taken especially in the later rounds who are certainly developmental projects. Obviously this in part due to the lockouts.

If you gave sufficient reasoning for your thoughts, then I may be more apt to believe you. But the fact of the matter is many draft analysts who do know a lot, thought he would. He didn't, but I don't think it was because he wasn't ready. I think it certainly has more to do with the fact that he doesn't have a ton of upside per se, especially in the pass rushing department.

The hard part is I've tried to do everything right for the past eight years: Graduate from high school, not have any troubles in high school, graduate from college, not have any off-the-field issues, play all four years, go to the combine, go to the Senior Bowl, do good at both, have a good Pro Day. I tried to do everything right.

You didn't just try, Ian; you succeeded in doing everything right. Life isn't always fair, but you have to have faith. You've got nothing to be ashamed of; you are still 10x the athlete that most of the people you will meet in everyday life are. I understand that the dream was to play in the NFL, and that not getting drafted in a lockout year is a serious blow to that dream. But the dream is not dead yet. Stay in shape, work hard, and some team will take a chance on you after the labor deal is settled. And remember: while I think that the dream of playing in the NFL is an admirable one, the goal should be to lead a life that you can be proud of. You don't need to play in the NFL to have that. Best wishes, and best of luck to you, young man.
