I used to manage a slowpitch softball team for a few seasons and i had a website set up for the team to check for game times and standings and what not. i stumbled across the website last night. and i wondered if my record as a MGR would be good enough at ND

so i managed the team for 5 seasons, it was a competitive league made up of tourney players.

My team was just beginning playing organized but we had some decent players.

here's how the my managing career went.

First full season: 4-7, eliminated in semi-finals of playoffs.

Spring season(different league): 7-3, 1st place in league, there were no playoffs.

Second full season:10-4, League 1st place, Playoff Champions.

Third Full season: 10-5 league runner up, Playoff Runner up.

Final season: 6-6, knocked out in 2nd rd. playoffs.

Total win/loss

38-24.

I know this is lame and totally apples to oranges, but if i were ND's football Head coach with that resume, would i be fired after the 5th season?

My win pctg. is about .612, but i do have that Championship in my second year! and a couple 10 win seasons!

would the championship merit more years as HC? or would i be canned!

Most impetuous Irish fans would be calling for your head after the first season. Though the marked improvements and championship would stay your execution till after the 6-6 rebuilding season.

haha awesome, one more year baby! to be honest we had a lot of new talent in that 6-6 year that i think would have really turned into something nice if we had stuck together.

Too funny and cool twist on a rather valid question.

I notice you guys didn't have very many games per season. Kind of ironic: As many years as I played violent games and violent sports, and just fighting with friends when we were bored, the only serious injury I suffered (and will stay with me for the rest of my life) was during a slow pitch (8ft. arch minimum) league tourney game.

Our first season (it was a team of engineering nerds and me) we went 3-21. Our second season, exact same team, we went 26-2 and won the tourney. Season 3, I was playing first base, sprinted out to stop a grounder twixt me and 2nd, noticed pitcher would not reach 1st on time, so I sprinted back to 1st. Runner and I collided full speed. I landed on my tailbone perpendicular to the ground, crushing my lower lumbar (sacrum area). But we won.

I used to be 6'2". I am now 5'11".

But we won. We kept the same coach for 8 seasons until we got bored. Or got jobs. Or women. Whatever.

ouchies!!!

yea most leagues i play in are like 10-12 game seasons, there are a couple where you play 30 games. but they are 2 nights a week.

i have friends that play every day of the week in some league or tourney, but its just too much for me, especially when football season rolls around.

isn't it crazy what a difference it makes if you just stay together, my lone team i am on now was 6-6 including playoffs last year, this season we're 8-2 and going to be 1 or 2 seed in playoffs. its fun and reminds me of glory days, and how i should have never quit baseball.

thankfully i havent gotten seriously hurt playing, (knock on wood) mostly because im not afraid of being called a puss y i'll get the heck outta the way if someone smokes a liner at me!

you still play or you hang up the cleats? i cant help but think your team was not utilizing your talents correctly at first base, i would love to have a centerfielder that could run like a deer:wink:

I was center at the start, then moved to 1st, then, believe it or don't I played the last 5 or 6 seasons with that team as the only southpaw catcher in the league. I had great fun messing with the batter's heads. I knew EXACTLY where each batter would send the ball and alerted the team before each pitch. It was fun to f.uck with the batters' heads and kind of amazing how easily they fell for my mid-pitch jabber.

Other teams I played for always put me at 1st. I no longer play. Dangit, I'm just trying to walk again.

But I'm still sexy.

Our dang coach (or coordinator) took the nerd way out and left us to become a University physics professor in Illinois. Loser.

Can't compare.... in baseball a winning percentage over .600 is amazing. That equates to 97 wins a year in the MLB.

i love 1st base, and catcher for that matter, not too far from the dugout, not too many in slowpitch can smoke the 1st base line. im a righty but i can still field first very well. at 6 foot 235 i make a pretty decent target too.

making this thread makes me want to run a team again, but the headaches aren't worth it. i just play when i'm called.
