So, I was really worried about the basketball team after this year since there are so many seniors on this team, but I just checked and it seems like Tim Abromaitis, Scott Martin and Carleton Scott all have eligibility left. The only ones who don't have eligibility left on the team are Nash and Hansborough (and Kopko, but he doesn't really play). What are the odds that Abro, Martin and Scott return for next year? It doesn't seem like any of them would be drafted, so is it safe to assume that all 3 will be back? If so, I think we'd be pretty solid with Atkins replacing Hansborough and Cooley (or someone else) replacing Nash.

They probably won't be as good as this year but I still expect them to make the NCAA tournament. Our one recruit for next year is Pat Connaughton who is a 6-5 sharpshooter which is what this team needs. In 2012 we get our most highly regarded recruit Ina while named Cameron BiElsheid (spelling) who is a 6-6 slasher and is ranked 96 on ESPN. For example Jerian Grant was 93 and Atkins was only 90.

Next year for ND will be based entirely on whether players like Broghammer can provide quality depth. After the starting 5 of Atkins, Abromaitis, Martin, Scott, and Cooley it's all a bunch of unproven guys.

Agreed. It's frustrating to watch Brooks at times. Hopefully, he really works on his game in the offeseason.

Interestingly (at least to me) the team that they beat to win the Ma. state title was St. Johns HS in Shrewsbury. The most notable player on that squad is none other than Richard Rogers, who was recruited to play football by ND, but has verballed to Cal where his father played. On another note, I would speculate that the biggest area of need for this BBall team is a legit big. When they ran through the starters in the tournament and showed 4 guys at 6'8" and Hansborough at 6'4", it seemed clear to me they need a 6'10"-6'11" guy clogiing the paint and grabbing boards.

you can count on the starters being:

pg- atkins
sg- martin
sf-abromaitis
pf-scott
c- cooley

They arent world beaters, but they'll be good enough to make the tourney.

Dont be suprised if you see this lineup alot:

pg- atkins
sg- grant
sf-martin
pf- abromaitis
c- scott

Brooks will become more of a lockdown defender and I think Dragicevich will suprise alot of people.

I'm thinking that you want to substitute Carleton Scott for Nash.

He's probably only doing it for the evaluation and feedback so he knows what to work on. He'll be back.

Yep. Idk why more players going into their final year don't do it

I agree. It's a great opportunity for players to get outside feedback on weaknesses in their game. They also get the opportunity to gain extra experience playing against a higher level of competition. I really don't see a downside to taking advantage of this.

I think Brooks will be a good high-effort guy for us next year. I liked seeing him come into the game against FSU, cause he was all over the place. I think not playing any meaningul minutes over the second half of the year could have helped him a lot. We wont be as good as this past year, but there's no reason why we can't grab a 4-6 seed next year.

PG: Atkins
SG: Martin
SF: Abro
PF: Scott
C: Cooley

Bench: 2/3 from Brooks, Grant, Dragevich
and 1/2 of Broghammer/Knight

I think Cooley will average 10 boards a game, he is always in amazing position and really took off the last 10-15 games or so this year. From the Louisville OT game on, he averaged 4 points and 3.8 rebounds a game playing in only 10 mins per game. If he can get 25+ mins next year with a year of experience under his belt, he should be able to get us 8 and 8 a night minimum.

Cooley's grandmother died right before the BE Tourney. I don't know if that had anything to do with that drop-off in production.

seems like everybody nowadays tries the draft...i think he'll come back, at the very least u get a couple of weeks for the guys making the decisions to give you feedback on what you need to work on

gonna be interesting to see the decisions some of these guys make with a possible lockout looming

He's only trying to see what he needs to work on for when he enters next year. That's why he didn't hire an agent.
