The Packers are the best team in the NFL.
Here is an example in 1991 there were:
12- ten win teams
5 -teams 8-8, or 9-7
9-Teams losing record
2011;
13-ten win teams
3- 8-8 or 9-7 teams
12- teams with losing records.

It is like America, where is the middle, one year a team is the greatest ever, the next they dont make the playoffs, Dallas I believe had 18 seasons of having a winning record, that will never happen again.

College sports is different than professional.

IrishLax give up. It was a great super bowl between 2 great teams. By the way Irish666 you say the NFL is in bad shape. YOU GOT TO BE JOKING........Despite a salary cap and a business model that requires all 32 teams to share revenue, the National Football League remains a booming $7.3 billion business in its 90th year — the biggest in American sports.

Money, who cares about money, I contribute part of that 6.3 billion, I dont collect it. It is in bad shape because 1)Only a few teams make profits, the rest are on welfare.2) As of right now, there isnt any football next season.

6'1" 175... do the math... ;)

and yes, the NFL is watered down compared to 20 years ago... I think that is where the TC was going...

and I still agree

Damn boy. You go.

I do think the "watered down" tag our NFL is dealing with revolves around player health: Which to me, is a double-edged sword in that I want the big hits and snot bubble inducing, bone jarring tackles of yesteryear minus the non-recoverable effects.

The Desean Jackson hit earlier this year really upset me, because I thought I had just witnessed a murder. That being said, we have all witnessed hits like this since our birth.

So: To evolve or not to evolve? That is the question.

1971 Quarterbacks in the NFL:
J. Brodie, F. Tarkenton, T. Bradshaw, R. Gabriel, J. PLunkett, B. Kilmer, L. Dawson, B. Griese, R. Staubach, D. Lamonica, A. Manning, C. Morton, J. Uintas.
1991 Quarterbacks in the NFL:
W. Moon, D. MArino, J. Kelly, J. Elway, T. Aikman, J. McMahon, B. Eisiason, S. Young, J. Montana.
2001 Quarterbacks in the NFL:
P. Manning, B Favre.
2010 Quarterbacks in the NFL:
P. Manning, T. Brady, B. Favre D. Mcnabb.

It must be me, but cant anybody else see the downward spiral of just the QB's. And this is because alot of greeat college QB's, are being drafted early, forced to play, and they develope mechanical and mental deficiencies, and they are labeled busts. (Brady Quinn, ALex Smith, to name a few). In the day, those QBS could of developed in practice, or maybe wouldnt of even got drafted.

I'm only good for witness, QBs from about '87 (I was born in '80) to present.

I chalk it up to the end of an era. Just like the superbowl commercial where the guy is back in the '40s (or was it '50s), in which customer service and good attitudes dominated (or do we just think yesterday was better) compared to today, when he was getting his vehicle fueled up at a full-service gas station.

When I lost my good-old-fashioned grand-dad, it was the passing of an era. I never heard him say, though, that things were better in his life... He did seem to reflect to a time before his own, as we all do. He witnessed some great ball players.

But he regarded Favre highly. He watched many greats before him. So to me, I think we need to keep things in perspective.

We will witness many ends of eras in our lives.

It's easy to look back on what the mind sees as prosperous times and to omit bad things. In the recent past, we recall bad things quickly. But time heals all. It truly does. It softens rough edges. The mind also concocts images of better things in the past. I attribute this to human nature...

Uhhh... add to that list Roethlisberger (2 rings), Rivers, Brees, Ryan, Rodgers.... I mean seriously how could you not put Brees ahead of McMahon or Eisiason? Or how with your arbitrary choice of years Kurt Warner somehow doesn't make it on for this decade even though he is a lock for the Hall.

It gets old listening to people rip the halftime show. I think people rip it for the sake of ripping it. I think they could have had the Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Notorious BIG on stage and "it just didnt sound right" would have rang out. They had alot of energy and the they dancers were coordinated with the light suits. The crowd gave a pretty load ovation at the end. Better than Tom f-in Petty standing there with a guitar singing.

I recieved 3 texts from people who were watching it that they thought it was really good. If my mom asks me the names to the songs so she can download them on iTunes then I say its a legit show.

Anyway, I thought the vBook was pretty super.

I don't really have time to get into this whole argument, but dude, you really put your argument in the crapper by doing this QBs list and listing those guys as the top (or however you listed them) QBs in 2010. That's just you showing your bias and ignoring all facts that point to any flaw in your thinking.

Seriously, how do you put Favre and McNabb on that list with a straight face??? They both SUCKED this year! Why not throw Tim Tebow on there as well? How can you not mention Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Phillip Rivers, Ben Fatlisberger, Michael Vick, Matt Ryan, etc. You could even throw some guys in there like Tony Romo, Eli Manning, and Matt Schaub...QBs are that are pretty decent.

I can see where both sides are coming from, but man, you lost me with that last post...

You're right, if they had the Beatles, Michael Jackson and the Notorious BIG on stage, it might have been pretty quiet. Just saying.

Here is how I fix the NFL:
Rookie salary cap.
4 years removed from high school to be drafted.
Free Agency only after 5 years of being in the NFL.
Reduce the number of teams by 4.
All contracts are guaranteed.
Any off field law breakin crap and the player/coach/owner is kicked out of the league.
Only 5 rounds in the draft.
Stay at 16 games.

The qb comparison was to illustrate the talent at qb and how it is declining. And that is just one position.

All the QBs today (except Manning, Brady, Mcnabb) are stat qbs, just cuz a player throws for 4000 yards against CFL like defenses doesnt make him great.

Warner HOF? Really? How about Doug Williams, Mark Rypien, Neil Lomax? Danny White? good Qbs, but not HOFs.

What about longevity on a team, remember they use to name defenses, DOOMSDAY, THE STEEL CURTAIN, ORANGE CRUSH, THE FEARSOME FOURSOME. Now were lucky to have players play together for 3 years, let alone develope nicknames.

How about murders (Ray Lewis, Michael Vick), alllowed the play in the NFL. I remember when it was a honor and a privellage to play. Now players can do what they want cuz they know there is a spot for them.
