about the QBs, there is one thing about Rees, HE WINS, he just has that consistency, he doesnt make a ton of bad mistakes, he's much smarter than BQ or JC during their freshman years. I dont think we need a super QB to win right now, we just need talented receivers, a good RB core, solid lines on both ends, and our D to keep up the heat
Just a thought. Having a mobile QB who can pick up three or four first downs a game, especially on third and long, is like having three or four turnovers a game.
That is precisely how Ohio State won their bowl game and probably how Auburn won the NC. (Auburn had a running QB who picked up a few first downs and Oregon did not.)
For a defense to stop this, they must either play a tight zone with the line backers close and therefore not pass rushing and opening up the 10 to 12 yard area, give up a double cover on one or more of our wide receivers, or commit a safety or line backer to spy the QB and therefore reducing their pass coverage and limiting the pass rush. If they play man-to-man coverage on the wide receivers, they run the risk of a very long gain by the QB.
The wildcat formation becomes much more dangerous if the QB (now a wide receiver) is a threat and may require double coverage.
This is why I feel Kelly's offense must have a dynamic, running QB; and I think this means Golson or Hendricks.
Playing it safe by having a QB who only throws and/or just doesn't make mistakes eliminates all the above advantages.
And having Michael Floyd on the field means instant migraine for the opponent's defensive coordinator.
