To all my fellow lemmings standing on the cliff preparing to jump off with this last de-commitment, I say step back!!! I know this seems crazy after the guy was just on campus this past week and we have played so well. The reality is that recruiting is getting uglier and uglier every single year for every program in America.

When you ask who’s fault is this? I say it is the recruits, coaches, media, internet, fans and technology. In 2010, we have more information flowing in a given day than we had in an entire recruiting season back 10 years ago.

How does anyone expect this to get better given Twitter, Facebook, Rivals.com, Scout.com, ESPN, college football websites and every blog site. Let’s face the facts. When a kid decides to eat lunch, we know whether he ate PB&J or bologna. If it is PB&J, we ask if it was grape or strawberry jam because that might signify if he likes teams with purple or red uniforms.

So, what I am trying to say here is we all better step back take deep breath and prepare for an ever increasingly insane ride. Every season is going to bring more and more de-commits and rumors which will drive us all over that cliff.

If you think that this is driving you crazy, can you only imagine being a Head Coach. Trust me, Kelly is working overtime to make sure we have good athletes. He knows that his job is much easier if he has playmakers on the roster. Why do you think he is chasing the Huggins, Ishaqs and Shulers so hard!!!

In the end, Notre Dame and Brian Kelly will find 20-25 good student-athletes that want to be at ND and play with the gold helmets. There will be some who become stars and some who will fizzle, so enjoy the boys once the helmet is on. GO IRISH!!!

I agree with the facebook, twitter thing. I have a facebook but don have any players on there because i don't personally know them. So why should i have them on there. But i bet there are fans that stalk there porfiles all the time and that would drive me nuts.

Nice work Jonesman. I'm in for avoiding the starletts and getting 3 star guys with potential and ability to fill needs. Many of these great programs today are filled with 3 star guys who project. The probelm of standards still applies in my opinion, can they get in and do they want to test themselves in the classroom.

Couldn't have said it better Jonesman! There is one other thing to add to the mix.

Most 17 yo kids will change their mind bologna vs. PB&J 3 times in the average lunch period. This might depend on what they think the girl across the room, or their HS school coach, or parent or posse or whoever will be more impressed by.

Or the decision might be made because it will "show" that person who they perceived as having slighted them that the kid is really important and really the boss.

For many of them, the decision process has similar parameters whether they are picking what to eat or picking a school.

Excellent post, jonesman.

I would much rather have a 2- or 3-star player who wants to be at ND than a 4- or 5-star player who thinks he's God's gift to college football.
