We just need more speed on the defense. Not worried about offense, all it need is QB that can run it. Rees will have a very good day against Utah. He'll beat them with his running, the one thing that Crist is not good at. IMO, Bennett Jackson should try to play in the secondary to help the D. The dude has blazing speed.
Rees isn't a runner, the grass isn't greener, Utah will be pissed off and excited to play in Notre Dame Stadium for the first time...Rees is going to be in for a long game on his first career start. His best hope is that the dink and dunk is not guarded against and Floyd pulls a Nevada game circa '09 and can't be tackled. People need to be real.
Notre Dame could win, but it will be because Rees managed the game, to expect him to win the game is a bit much for a first time starting, true freshman QB. The playmakers on this team need to step up and win one.
And there is a bit more to playing in the secondary than "blazing speed", which I actually haven't seen much of. "Blazing Speed" is what you see when you look at old footage of Ismail, you see it when you watch Chris Johnson break away. "Blazing speed" is when you win the footrace, because the defenders' brains can't choose the right angle to compensate. So far Jackson is fast, maybe the fastest on the team, but to designate him blazing is a bit premature, until he shows it.
One last thing on my mind. Ifs don't count for anything. If we would have communicated better in the months leading up to 9/11/2001 perhaps the Trade Center would still be standing, and If we could have just found the Japanese fleet, we could have stopped Pearl Harbor, and if I would have studied in high school I could have attended Notre Dame. Ifs don't mean squat. If you want a reason to expect a better season next year, look at the product on the field and see improvement...or don't.
