I have been asked by several people why Notre Dame doesn't have night games in South Bend? I don't know the answer, anyone else?

I think it be pretty cool to have one night game a year. Like in 2013 when Oklahoma comes to South Bend. Or another big opponent each year. Likely get a rowdier crowd too

I think night games are becoming much less "taboo" in the east, in the west, most games are at night for TV (east coast bias) LSU has mostly night games, as do many SEC and now some big 10 teams, if you want to talk about tradition, even stingy Michigan is having their night game next year (against ND ironically) i personally would be a fan of it, gives fans from Ohio, northern Michigan and the Indianapolis area a chance to sleep in on gameday!

it can't be NBC's problem b/c they are televising the army game at night later this season.

I think night games should be implemented for special games, i.e. when USC or a specially ranked opponent comes to town. not all the time, just sometimes. like every other season or something

NO just saying that a night game in Nov would be nice and cold. Makes the game that much better.

I think our tough games would be awesome at night time. Would love to watch ND play someone like Texas, Oklahoma or USC on a Saturday night. I usually watch a football game on Saturday night anyways, so it would be fun every once in awhile to watch them play at night.

Speaking on a purely selfish level - I'm glad they don't play at night as I'm 5 hours ahead of you guys and it would be an ungodly hour here, so, I'm glad they are mostly day games ;)

I hear you.., LOL. When I was stationed it Italy I also enjoyed being able to watch them at night. but all the late games come on so late it's ridiculous. I remember watching Super Bowls until 5:30 in the morning on a work day. Talk about exhausting.

Thanks for the input.

I agree with Jason that it would be awesome to have just one night game a year. MSU does pretty much the same thing. Would be nice to see it for USC or Michigan or Miami/Okla/Tex when they come to South Bend.

It is an agreement between nbc and Notre Dame, that is the reason nbc had the lights put in at the stadium and later in the season the games are moved up an hour.

A couple different things:

Might have to do with "tradition." I remember before they put the permanent lights in the stadium, they used to bring those Musco lights in for certain occasions. I think the Michigan game in around '81 or '82 was the first one. If I recall correctly, there was quite a bit of controversy about ruining the tradition of all day games at home. Kind of like when they put lights in Wrigley field.

The other thing, and this is more a personal thought than anything, but it gets DAMNED COLD in that stadium in November after the sun goes down. Might just be because Northern Indiana tends not only to be cold, but damp, too. Been there many times after they put the lights in, with the later start time (remember one particular Boston College game among others), and just being totally miserable in the 4th quarter. And I typically don't suffer from the cold. Unlike the wife, who has to have the heat on in our convertible in the summer if I have the top down and it is below 90 degrees. Singes the hair right off my legs.
