One of my favorite things about ND football. Class. Let's hope we maintain it while others keep losing it.

I hate to say this, but I can see this Luchs story having the effect on college football similar to the one that Ken Caminiti once had on MLB with steroids and other PEDs.

And when that day comes and the NCAA has their own list of 104 names they want to keep confidential, sadly, I feel pretty confident that at least a few Irish players will be on it...

I definitely don't agree. First, nothing in the story was all that surprising. I felt like I was reading a synopsis of "He Got Game" with all the dirty parts taken out. If anything, the story exposed the NCAA more than it exposed the players. A lot of these kids come from poor backgrounds and view the NCAA as a proving grounds to get into the NFL. They generate millions of dollars for the NCAA and the schools they play for. And we're supposed to be shocked! outraged! that a few of the higher profile ones took a few hundred dollars in handouts now and then. It doesn't even benefit the schools (unlike booster skeeziness) because agents can go anywhere.

As for the Irish players, wouldn't surprise me if a few guys have received money, but the last high profile Irish player I can imagine doing so was Julius Jones. Don't know why he stands out in my mind as a likely suspect, but there it is.

Probably true

Probably true

If the NCAA does a real investigation, I am sure some ND names will pop up. ND players are not saints, there are bound to be some who took gifts, but I suspect the list will be quite short compared to most football powers.
