Then all focus shifts to preparing for Purdue.

Positions still up for grabs (players battling in parentheses):

- Outside receiver spot opposite Floyd (Shaq Evans, Duval Kamara, Tai-ler Jones, John Goodman)
- Center (Braxston Cave, Dan Wenger)
- Right tackle (Taylor Dever, Andrew Nuss, Nichols?)
- Both outside linebacker positions (Fleming, Filer, Smith, Neal, ???)
- Inside linebacker opposite Te'o (Too many to name)
- Any else?

I'm really worried that the outside and inside linebacker spots haven't been resolved yet, especially the inside spot.

Does anyone know what happened to Steve Paskorz? He's suppose to be inside (switched from fullback) but there has been no mention of him whatsoever so far.

Nichols seriously has a chance to be starting tackle as a true freshman? That doesn't say much for the other guys....I hope he is the real deal, but freshman O-lineman is not something I want to see anymore.

What about backup quarterback between Rees and Montana? Or has that been settled already?

No, 2A & 2 B at the moment.

I really like the way Rees and Montana are battling," Kelly said. "The spread comes real naturally to Tommy. Nate has a really strong arm and he's really athletic. He's stronger than Tommy. Tommy is still developing physically. At the end of the day, we'll probably end up with a 2A/2B with those two guys

Paskorz was mentioned by either Kelly or Diaco last week.

The Prister article noted:

... Defensively, (one) guy that stood out for me was (Dan) Fox. We moved him to some Will reps with (Anthony) McDonald being out.

"I'd have to watch a little more film, but I liked what I saw with those guys that we really tried to get into some key backup positions."

I'd expect Paskorz going through OJT at a new position is a backup target as well.

Nichols looks like a weight room beast. He's added a lot of wt in the past year or two but I don't think he comes with the technical expertise that Ryan Harris had as a freshman (and he stilled got schooled). Harris moved into a starter's role by midseason out of necessity. This OLine is deeper than when Harris or Young were freshman. As Kelly has been searching for Key Backups, I'd suspect Nichols is more in that category. Maybe he'll surprise.

No, the OP is mistaken in putting Tate in the mix there. Kelly is very pleased with him and has mentioned his name as someone fans should get to know, but that spot has been a Dever/Nuss battle all along. One of those two will start. Nichols still has a lot of work to do.
