Does Rich Rod really think this will help? Sounds like a pretty desperate move to me

It keeps looking more and more like 2010 is going to be an absolute disaster for Michigan.

Yeah the whole wings thing doesn't make sense to me.

When there has been so much attrition from the program, looming sanctions and shrinking support from the fan base, employing this kinda tactic would only further divide the team.

DickRod doesn't need more transfers from the program. He needs every player to win right now or he is done.

I can't wait for Mike Floyd, Kyle Rudolph, and Theo Riddick to shred there defense apart.

Don't forget Armando. They have an undersized front seven (or in their case, six). Allen could easily gain 150 on the ground. He ran for 139 yards last time around, and that time Michigan had Brandon Graham.

If Michigan gets a couple of bad breaks, I'm talking key injuries to either Robinson or the offensive line, a ton of turnovers, or poor performance...they could be 3-9.

Michigan can conceivably lose to 11 of the 12 teams on their schedule, and that includes Bowling Green. If things go their way, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, and possibly Iowa or Michigan State, can blow them out.

If we can get a couple of three and outs or quick defensive stops early...we could score on our first two or three drives and be up by 14 halfway through the first quarter.

My prediction is 5-7. Losses to Notre Dame, Michigan State, Iowa, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin and Ohio State. 4-8 if they blow it against Connecticut or Indiana.

Oh yeah Armando will def do damage. I was just saying that we won't even need a run game against their thin secondary. We could gash them thru the air all day. Floyd w/ 6 catches and over 100 yds receiving, at least 2 TD's.

Michigan doesn't even have 1 guy who could cover Floyd let alone the rest of our receivers.

Michigan returns I think 10 offensive starters? Their offense will be better. But I really believe their defense will be horrible. Because of that, the best they could do this season is 6-6. RR will be gone soon enough.

These two paragraphs go together well.

No, they can't cover Floyd. They might not even be able to cover Floyd with two. How they are supposed to provide pressure and cover everyone is beyond me. That means they'll have to drop back the linebackers and we'll just run the ball down their throat, THEN we'll pass.

I REALLY hope you all are right, but I hate counting chickens. Especially after living through last year. Taint Forcier is a year older, as is Shoelaces (lol).

I have to say that on my buddies Michigan board (mgoblog.com if you were interested), some people on there are completely delusional. I pride myself on not being a kool-aid shotgunner and I think I call them as I see'em, but some of these guys are on some bad drugs.
Some still calling ND a lock in their W column.

I read MGoBlog once daily. That never gets old. You see the thread about Denard starting both ways? Idiots.

Michigan is in one of the worst times in the history of their program. They:

- Are coming off of the worst two year span they've ever had (8-16 overall)
- Have not been to a bowl game in two years, when they made a bowl game every year for 30+ seasons before now)
- Are losing the support of their fanbase (Evidence: The sea of scarlet in the Big House when Ohio State played there)
- Are scheduling weak OOC opponents
- Have gone 1-5 against their three main rivals in the past two seasons
- Actually fielded a worse defense than they had in 2008
- Have slacked off in recruiting and have little depth
- Their current 2011 class has just 10 members, 8 of them are three-star recruits
- Are entering an era where competition in the Big Ten is much more difficult (Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin and now Nebraska are all solid football programs)
- Look to have a terrible year in 2010 with not a lot of elite coaching options available
- Are citing an 8 win season in a coach's third year A GOOD SEASON (At Michigan? Nuh-uh.)

I hope Michigan wins wins every game, other than when ND destroys them. At least they were respectable before, not with DickRod, they are pathetic.

I think that reps from the NCAA should take away RichRods shoelaces and put him on suicide watch.

1. michigan fans on that mgoboard are some of the most idiotic, delusional ive ever come across on the internets.

2. i see nothing wrong with rich rods "earning your wings" --kinda cool actually.

They give their players "cool" nicknames, which then gets the delusional-but-not-hopelessly-delusional guys pumped about them.

Craig "Death" Roh
Vlad "The Impaler" (I still don't know who the hell this guy is)

They think DT Mike Martin is going to have some kind Ndamukong Suh season and that Michigan is going to get great pressure on the opposing offenses. But when those opposing offenses throw all over them and the linebackers have to stay back, what are they going to do?

Question Re: Earning their wings.

When did wolverines sprout wings and learn to fly?

Did RichRod confuse wolverines and pigs? Maybe he meant "sniff for truffels" because that I can actually picture them doing. (We'd better beat the skunkbears this year because I don't want to have to eat my words).

I never visit the scout board or mgoboard for the comments, just too much dumb, I prefer the comments at umgoblue.com, and the articles from maizenbrew.

But as for the earning of the 'wings', I like it. If a player like Tate for instance gets a sense of entitlement, I would think, this would help fix that. It also shows that no one is more important than the team.

I've always thought that the Irish shouldn't practice in their gold helmets.

It would be a lot cooler if they practiced in plain white helmets or something like that and held the privelage of donning the gold helmet for game days.

1. That's what fans do. :)

2. I think it's a great idea, too. Extra motivation for those who came into fall practice not in D1 football condition.

Yeah, I've heard some call MGoBlog the "best college football blog on the net".

I don't think the "earning your wings" thing should be started now, in his 3rd year. If he was gonna do that, he shoulda done that from the start.

This is not the best time to do it, given all the pressure for DickRod to deliver wins for the program. It's just more humiliating for some of the players to be singled out for not being up to par.

If a guy is feeling self entitled, don't play his ass. Simple as that.

Not surprising, but Tate Forcier has not yet earned his wings.

then he sure as hell has a "lit up Notre Dame like crazy" merit badge...

I hope this is a reverse fo last year for them in that Tate gets SHUT DOWN by us and we beat them by 30, then he kills everyone else and UM wins 10 games... it's good for us, good for cfb, keeps Rich Rod at UM (which is good) and hopefully means they beat tOSU and keep them out of any big Jan. games.

Rumour of the day with absolutely little substance, an associate hot chick of Tate Forcier has tweeted that he will request a transfer. Take it for what you will.

If we beat ND this year I would be surprised, pleasantly, but surprised. I still think we are able to put a lot of points on the board, but our weaknesses match up perfectly with your strengths. But who knows, Denard might the second coming of Pat White and we drop 40+ on you, none of us will have a very educated guess until after week one.

NBC.com has last year's Michigan game... suggest you re-watch it.

I don't need a replay to know his arm is weak.

He may not horribly inconsistent, but he is inconsistent in putting the ball on the money. He can't do put the ball in the perfect spot as often as Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen. He throws a lot of low balls and his deep ball is terrible.

I can remember one drive last year. Forcier threw two deep balls. The first one was an absolutely awful throw, the spiral was practically end-over-end and the ball sailed far to the left and missed his receiver by a good four to five yards. The second one was completed, but only because Darrin Walls (like all defensive backs seem to do for Notre Dame) screwed and fell flat on his face when he was in perfect position to easily bat the ball down.

Unless a quarterback is off the charts in every game (Clausen), I won't be pumping up a quarterback who threw for 240 yards on the 86th best defense in the country.

The kid's stats against legitimately good football teams:

Iowa - 8 of 19, 92 yards, 1 INT; 8 carries, 26 yards (Lost 30-28)
Penn State - 13 of 30, 140 yards, 1 INT; 14 carries, 10 yards (Lost 35-10)
Wisconsin - 20 of 26, 188 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT; 8 carries, -16 yards (Lost 45-24)
Ohio State - 23 of 38, 226 yards, 1 TD, 4 INTs; 6 carries, 10 yards (Lost 21-10)

Combined - 64 of 113, 646 yards, 3 TDs, 7 INTs; 36 carries, 30 yards (Lost all four games)

Against Ohio State, Forcier was their biggest detriment. He:

1) Fumbled in the end zone. Ohio State recovered and went up 7-0. Forcier was not stripped, he simply dropped the football.
2) Threw an interception into double coverage deep downfield. The corner batted the ball away and safety Kurt Coleman picked it off.
3) Threw THREE interceptions in the fourth quarter, two of them on Ohio State's side of the field and another when Michigan was less than ten yards away from midfield. The first was an overthrow right into Kurt Coleman's hands. The second, Forcier waited too long and then tried to rifle the ball into the far left of the end zone. He did not have the arm strength, and the corner easily stepped in front and picked it off. Interception number four, Forcier had a man wide open and assumed Ohio State defensive Thaddeus Gibson couldn't jump and pick off a pass a foot and a half over his head.

I am NOT concerned about Tate Forcier, because he:

A) Is third string
B) Had the third best performance of a true freshman against our defense last season
C) Is not that good
