Time to promote Tebow, demote Quinn

It’s time for the Denver Broncos to promote Tim Tebow to their No. 2 quarterback, if only to keep him upright.

The Broncos have way too much invested in Tebow for him to being playing behind a third-string offensive line any longer. Plus, the current No. 2 quarterback, Brady Quinn, showed nothing in Sunday night's 33-24 loss in Cincinnati to prove he deserves to be a backup NFL quarterback.

Let’s face it: Tebow is the future in Denver. Quinn is not. Move the kid up.

Tebow was fairly solid in his NFL preseason debut. He completed 8 of 13 passes for 105 yards, but he was harassed all night.

It’s clear Tebow must get used to the speed of the NFL game. Even in the speedy SEC, the former Florida star didn’t face anything like this. He also must work on protecting the ball. Still, Tebow showed his patented gutsy running on a 7-yard touchdown run on the final play of the game.

It’s time for Tebow to play more in the preseason and that can be done if he is made the No. 2 quarterback. Denver is going to use Tebow in special packages during the regular season anyway, so he might as well get backup repetitions now.

Tebow threw the ball well a few times and was let down by receiver Matthew Willis early. After throwing a perfect strike, Tebow, who entered the game late in the third quarter and stayed for the rest of the game, saw Willis drop the ball. Late in the game, he threw a nice pass to set up his scoring run. Like all rookie quarterbacks, Tebow has a lot of work to do, but there is promise.

Quinn didn’t show any promise. He bumbled his way through his performance as he completed just 6 of 16 pass attempts for 68 yards. He also threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Quinn looked completely lost, more like an emergency quarterback.

The Broncos must make that status official this week and give Tebow more playing time Saturday against Detroit in his home debut.

Meanwhile, starter Kyle Orton extended his fine summer by throwing two touchdown passes. Orton looked very sharp. It was a stark contrast to last year’s preseason opener when he threw three interceptions in his Denver debut.

In Denver, it is clear the quarterback pecking order must be this: Orton, Tebow and Quinn.

What the fuck man. It's one pre-season game. And Quinn is #9? Looks awful

It hurts me to say this....but Brady looked like garbage. My all time favorite ND player is nothing better than a backup to garbage (Kyle Orten). Tonight, I weep...

I can't really argue with the article. I watched it. Tebow even had a nice deep ball that the receiver just dropped.

I've seen it for the past four years (three in Cle., one game in Den.)....Nothing's changed. he's damaged goods at this point.

I definitely had to give him the benefit of the doubt because of his previous three years in Cleveland, but after that, it doesn't look so good. I find myself wanting Tebow to fail, but he really is a quality person, and it's a shame he's been shoved down my throat for four years, causing me to develop unwarranted hatred. Tebow definitely deserves a the move up the chart.

Brah....I know the feeling. I've been the biggest Brady honk out there the past 3 plus years since turning pro. I've been spouting off..."Oh, he'll get it, he hasn't been given a chance. Give it time.....yada yada yada....) It's the same shit I've looked at since he got to C-town. Nothing, nothing has changed. He almost looks like he's shell-shocked after his time here. Every play turns into a Chinese Fire Drill....That was never the case at ND.

Very sad this night.

I think Quinn should be ashamed that a rookie with poor mechanics showed him up, especially with this being his fourth year in the league.

I tend to agree as well. I say get Orton out as the starter also. It should go like this:

Tebow, Orton, Quinn. Sad to say it.

The mancrush has officially faded..... Quinn has been a complete BUST.

You know the sad part about this is that I knew deep down inside that he wasnt really that great a QB. Constantly he would throw the deep ball to Shark, or Mcknight, or Stovall, etc... and they would make a fantastic catch, but I always thought the ball was a horribly thrown ball. His leadership was second to none, but I guess that don't mean SHIT in the league.

Man this sucks.... But hey, his ssister is still smoking hot!!!!!!!!

Gotta be able to throw the long tight spiral in the NFL. End of story.

I think going all the way back to the draft debacle and then toiling in misery for 3 years in Cleveland under a coach who had ZERO business being a head coach and was a defensive coach to boot really destroyed Brady's confidence. The QB carousel in Cleveland and the playing for...well, Cleveland really took away that swagger and mojo he had.

He looks tentative. Every play he is running around like he has to make something great happen or he will get pulled and he ends up playing very tight. He threw some horrible passes last night.

I really hope he turns it around and shines. I think he is a good QB - he won't reclaim the greatness of his junior and senior years, but I think he can still be a good QB.

Tebow is still nothing more than a career backup, injury replacement Quarterback.
His passing mechanics are garbage...against guys who are gonna get cut he threw one nice ball all night.
Didn't pay any attention to the pass rush...got SMOKED by the rush on the outside and it wasn't even his blind side!
Orton is the starter.
If Tebow ever gets that job they'll be a run first team with minimal passing.

Quinn is a bust...which sucks...
Jimmy is better than both, easily

How the hell is Jimmy already more polished and poised, and just better than Quinn? Jimmy's got 3 years of college ball, Quinn has 4 and 3 years in the NFL. Sad.

Interesting point....I sort of always felt the same way about Clausen. It'll be interesting to see what happens with him over the next three eyars.
