Irish rookies: Tate impressing, Clausen not so much

It seems as if every time I read an article on the Seattle Seahawks's training camp, there's something in there about a great play Golden Tate has made. They're raving about him over there in Seattle.

On the other hand, Clausen is third-string in Carolina, behind starter Matt Moore and former Louisville quarterback Hunter Cantwell. First day of training camp he fumbled several snaps in a walkthrough. He's not doing terrific down in that Carolina heat. People are impressed with his accuracy and his arm, though.

From what I have read, Claussen may get the "Learn from Moore" approach. No doubt of his ability, but it is Moore's job to lose, not Jimmy's to win.

indeed, i think Clausen will be starting before the season is done, he has the talent, he just needs to learn the Carolina system, i think he will have a very successful career.

It might be tough just working with a new center the first day or two. I'm interested to watch their preseason games.

On the bright side Carolina's offensive system is very similar to what Weis was running at ND. The off coordinator for Carolina was an assistant under Weis at New England, so the terminology is very very similar.

No mention of Sam Young? I didn't even know he signed a four year contract with the Cowboys. I would have watched that game a lot closer last night if I knew that. I hope he has a good career. I am afraid three years with Latina and four years with Mendoza really damaged his stock. He had all the potential coming out of high school and I hope he realizes all he is capable of with good coaching and instruction.

Young and Olsen, eh. The average football fan couldn't even name the Pro Bowlers at OL in any given year.

True. But I always love to keep up with Irish alums as much as possible. I have always thought Sam was a quality guy and I hope he has a great pro career.

just watch for the guy piling on at the end of the play and you'll find your man.

That's funny! I will take that advice. Tried to rep you, but I gotta spread it around, I guess.

I think being 3rd string (or 2nd) is good for Clausen at this point in his career. No matter how much he thinks he is ready, its always good for rookie QB to sit. Historically rookie QB's that start right away fail in the long term. Best case he starts beginning next year, or past about the 10th game of this season. No rush in getting him on the field at this point.

He will have time to develop as well. Sam has one thing going for him that will help him ALOT thru the next few years - being 6'8" and 300+. You can teach technique, but cant teach size. I hope to see him succeed as well.

how many people plan to watch the game Thursday between Carolina and Baltimore, we'll see how Clausen is coming along even though more than likely he'll be up against second string or lower competition.

but should still be entertaining, i'm definitely going to watch, more just because i am a football fan and to see how Clausen does

I've already marked it down on my calendar. I'm definitely watching, just to see Clausen.

I am guessing Clausen becomes 2nd string by week 1. I have heard that Carolina is really impressed with his passing and arm strength.

Golden Tate will be making his debut tonight at 10 vs. the Titans, I don't think it will be televised but if anyone wanted to follow his progress online or by any other means.
