June 25
Back in the spring Notre Dame assistant coach Tony Alford stopped by Tarpon Springs High School in Florida to check in on 6-foot-7, 265-pound tackle Zach Debell. On Thursday Alford followed up by offering a scholarship to the Rivals250 prospect.

This kid's been working for offers. He's got 2 dozen offers but missing UF, FSU, and MIA. During Spring Break he toured a bunch of college campuses. He went to a Nike Camp in Miami. More recently he's been to Knoxville, camped in Athens, and at the Florida Linemen Camp June 20th.

Rivals Scouting Report Zach Debell - Yahoo! Sports notes:

A very tall, long-limbed lineman with a frame that could add another 30 pounds. He has very little bad body weight and a flat stomach. ...

... has a tendency to overextend while pass blocking, leaving him prone to being snatched. He could improve his flexibility a bit, which will help him get back in a nice sitting position while pass blocking ...

... does a nice job of using his length to keep defenders at bay while sliding his feet after contact. He also seems like a real nasty player who won't mind getting an extra hit in before the whistle is blown.

They expect he'll redshirt as a freshman to add bulk and strength and could end up a year starter.

Do we have a legitimate shot with this kid or is Kelly just throwing offers out there.

Notre Dame latest to offer LT Zach DeBell; UGA among faves | AJC College Sports Recruiting

by Chip Towers, AJC

6/27
Georgia Tech and UGA target Zach DeBell, once a relative unknown commodity in recruiting, is anything but these days.
The 6-foot-7, 265-pound offensive tackle from Tarpon Springs, Fla., just roped in offer number 24 this past weekend. This one came from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
DeBell adds that tender to a list that includes most of the Southeast, excluding the big three in his home state, Florida, Florida State and Miami. And they are all acutely aware of DeBell, so it’s probably just a matter of time before one or all pulls the trigger.
But the outspoken and gregarious DeBell is not worried right now about who hasn’t offered. He was just excited to know that Notre Dame could be an option, especially considering he has never visited or camped there.
“I guess they’ve just heard about me through the grapevine during recruiting,” said DeBell, who attended a South Florida camp this past weekend. “My basketball coach, CoachWoodka, went there. And they’ve been recruiting our quarterback, Louis Pappas. There’s a lot of video and stuff on me now so I guess they just like what they’ve seen.”
Apparently DeBell likes what he’s seen of the Irish, too. He now lists them among the schools in which he has the most interest so far. Although he was careful to say “it’s not really a top five” and is subject to change, DeBell said Notre Dame joins Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss and UCLA among the schools that most intrigue him to this point.
The Bulldogs moved up in DeBell’s eyes — and vice versa — after he attended the Mark RichtCamp in Athens on June 12th. The quick-footed DeBell, who projects as a left tackle and favors a pro-style system, was extremely impressive in pass-protection drills that day. Georgia, of course, is in need of left tackles and hopes to add at least one to the Class of 2011.
The Bulldogs already have commitments from three offensive linemen for 2011 in C David Andrews (6-3, 290) T Watts Dantzler (6-7, 330) and C/G Hunter Long (6-3, 293). But none are prototypical left tackles.
In addition to DeBell Georgia has offers out for Antonio Richardson (6-6, 310) of Nashville, Tenn.; Brandon Shell (6-7, 290) of Goose Creek, S.C.; and Xzavier Ward (6-7, 255) of Colquitt County.
DeBell first came on Georgia and Tech’s radar when he visited each school during a spring break tour of Southeast schools with his father back in March. Tech offered not long after. Georgia stepped forward in late May.
Nevertheless, DeBell’s recruitment is far from reaching a conclusion. He said he probably won’t make a decision until he has taken his five official visits this fall.

Ten at 10: Florida OL hits Tech, UGA on spring recruiting tour | AJC College Sports Recruiting

Chip Towers, AJC

March 30 2010

Zach DeBell, 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive lineman from Tarpon Springs, Fla., made an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech on Monday and was checking Georgia Tuesday morning before heading up I-85 to Clemson. It’s all part of a spring break recruiting tour that began in Miami for the Hurricanes’ spring game and will end Thursday in Chapel Hill, N.C. In between was a Nike Combine in Miami. . . . DeBell and his father Steve have been putting up some serious miles on their white Ford Explorer. After the Miami excursion, they got up before the sun Monday morning in Tarpon Springs to make the 440-mile drive to Atlanta. After attending the Tech practice and touring the campus and facilities, they spent the night with friends in Marietta and rose early again Tuesday to head to Athens and UGA. After Clemson Tuesday afternoon they’ll be off to South Carolina and North Carolina before heading home. . . . “They’re all schools I was interested in and they’re all about two hours from each other,” said DeBell, who said he studies up on each school during the drives. “It’s some good father-son bonding time, too.” . . . DeBell’s stock has risen sharply as he has gotten in front of coaches and scouts. The left tackle who competes in the 100-meter dash for his high school track team currently has offers from Clemson, South Carolina, UCF, Florida International, Iowa State, Minnesota, and South Florida. I’ll have more on DeBell later this week.

ESPN has an article up on Top OTs

OTs Christian Westerman, Cyrus Kouandjio and La'El Collins are all top 10 in the ESPNU 150 - ESPN

Under OTs To Watch:

Zach DeBell (Tarpon Springs, Fla./Tarpon Springs) could potentially make a nice move up the rankings as summer and senior season evaluations continue. DeBell needs to keep developing his skills as well as his frame, but he is an athletic, aggressive tackle prospect. He needs to channel some of his aggressiveness but could be a good pass-blocker who uses his hands and reach well. DeBell gets set quickly, has nimble feet and can shadow rushers.

High three-star offensive tackle Zach DeBell (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) informed ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com that Notre Dame, Tennessee, Georgia, South Florida and Ole Miss currently stand out.

Different top 5 from BGIF's post - Anyways, it looks like we made a good impression on this brute. I like it

Speaking of O-line targets for the Bulldogs, Tarpon Springs, Fla., tackle Zach DeBell told me this morning he’s definitely coming to “Dawg Night” at Georgia later this month. DeBell (6-7, 265) is quickly emerging as one of the top line talents in the South. It will be DeBell’s third trip to Athens in the last three months. He lists the Bulldogs among his favorites, along with Clemson, Notre Dame, Tennessee and UCLA.
