I posted about the game on another board, and I'm lazy so I'll just cut and paste:

All good points guys. Here's my thing:

You have a forward on the bench, in top form, who is the top scorer in the Mexican League. You have another forward on the bench, who is in top form, who is the top scorer in the MLS. And who starts? A forward who had all of 2 goals in the MLS, and ZERO goals for the national team, in Findley. That made ZERO sense. And the US didn't score one goal while he was in the game the entire world cup. Sickening.

And then you have start a midfielder (Clark) who hadn't started the past 2 games, but suddenly he's good enough to start in a knockout game??? And of course, his giveaway led directly to the first goal.

I actually like Bradley as a coach, but he fu**ed up today, and he basically admitted it by subbing out those 2 players before the 2nd half even started.

I was just telling my brother right before I saw this thread, that the US needs a #9...a straight assassin in front of the net that will get goals no matter what. Jozy is a beast and has some insane talent, but he's not ready yet. Will Herc be the guy? Is there someone in the pipeline? Simply put, like Camper said, we need a top forward.

Agree on Howard. The first goal should not have beaten him so easily on the first post. Ridiculous. Look at it again; he had no idea where he was. He looked shaky a couple of other times as well.

Not having Davies did hurt. He's the one that plays really well off of Altidore. Wish he was healthy.

And finally, the defense has sucked for the past 2 months. Today was nothing different. Shocked that Bornstein played so well, and for the most part the defense played well, but they let up a couple of times and Ghana pounced, which is what good teams do. I'm really not that depressed like I thought I'd be...the U.S. pretty much did I thought they'd do, and for times today played really good soccer.

Now, if Spain goes out vs. Portugal or later Paraguay, then you need to hide the women and children...

that england/germany game was a heck of a lot closer than 4-1... how many quality chances did the Brittish have just miss or taken away on poor calls???... either way very entertaining game.

this game was a sock in the gut, very disappointing....I am bummed out the US got bounced when they should have won this game and most likely the next. most ppl I talked to had them making to the semi's and losing to Brasil. It was not to be, oh well...there is always next year

Oh wait a minute, make that 4 years from now.

Well actually our next game is against Brazil... only it'll be in August...I do believe it's here in the states as well...

as far as LAs post... I agree Davies hurt... and Buddle should have seen playing time more than he did... but look at it this way... without Davies, in a sport that is AT BEST seventh in our pecking order in this country we can get to the final 16 teams in the world three of the last five World Cups and have qualified every time since 1990...

Wow. Wop.

j/k

You have to pull for the US. At the very least, go Alemania! Franz Beckenbauer was the man.

Looks like my European team is going to have to beat Argentina, should they get past the scrappy mexicans. I'm certainly not going to count them out. NICE SHOT off the cross bar!

Worst (best) case scenario would be Mexico and Germany getting down.

FIFA needs to install Goal Line Technology in World Cup

FIFA needs to install Goal Line Technology in World Cup

I've had enough with the bad officiating. There needs to be replay technology to make the best calls possible. Bad calls or lack thereof like the ones seen today in Germany-England and Argentina-Mexico is just absolutely ridiculous. It changes the game and the game experience for millions of people around the world. For such an event as the World Cup, one of the biggest sporting events in the world, the correct calls need to be made and can simply be executed by looking at a replay video for just a few seconds. I am thoroughly turned off from soccer by the past string of terrible officiating calls, and may eventually tune completely out if this continues.

In case any of you are not aware of some the bad calls made that could have been corrected via replay: per espn 2010 FIFA World Cup: No-goal for England as refs miss first-half call - ESPN Soccernet

In the Argentina-Mexico second-round match Sunday that followed England-Germany, Carlos Tevez scored on a short-range header midway through the first half to give Argentina a 1-0 lead. But replays showed Tevez was clearly offside. A discussion between the referee and assistant referee ensued with players gathered around in a frenzy. But the goal was ruled to stand.

• Brazilian star Kaka was automatically ejected against Ivory Coast after making a minor amount of contact with Kader Keita to draw a second yellow card of the game.

• In the final group game for the U.S., Clint Dempsey scored in the 21st minute off the rebound of Herculez Gomez's shot. But the goal was called offside. Replays indicated Dempsey was in a fair position.

• Switzerland played a man down after midfielder Valon Behrami was sent off in the 31st minute with a straight red card, getting tangled up with not one, but two Chilean players. Never mind that the second Chilean appeared to be going down in agony before contact was even made.

• Brazil's Luis Fabiano didn't even bother trying to deny he'd handled the ball on the way to his second goal last Sunday night.

• In a first-round Group A match between Mexico and France, Javier Hernandez appeared to be in an offside position when he ran onto Rafael Marquez's pass and went around goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to give Mexico a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute.

• Fabio Quagliarella thought he scored a late equalizer for Italy -- the loss eliminated the defending champions in the group stage -- but he was ruled offside by the smallest of margins, a ruling that was disputed by the Italians and appeared to be an error on replays.

• Australian forward Harry Kewell was sent off in the 24th minute against Ghana after blocking a goal-bound shot with his upper arm. The arm was pinned against his body, but Swiss referee Roberto Rosetti showed Kewell the red card in the first-round match.

Now the FIFA president stated goal line technology would take away debate from the game. Debate and controversy is part of the game. There are some cases in which it is not a debate at all. England clearly scored the goal. Argentina was clearly offsides. There's no debate to that. Those type of plays should be called correctly according to the rules of the game. Just like American football, if the ref does not see indisputable evidence to overturn the call, then the call should stand. It's that simple.

The FIFA president also said that at the end of the day, regardless of technology, the decision is still being made by a human. Technology let's the human make the most informed decision!

FIFA, add goal line technology!

I could maybe see the use of replay with baseball, but I'm not quite so sure about futbol. It would destroy the flow of the game, which is the very nature of futbol. Maybe add a second ref? Otherwise, I would just leave it as is, and use replay only after the game to evaluate the performance of the ref. I kind of like the futbol mentality of "mistake made, shut up and move on ."

Just a thought...

replay with baseball would be horrendous. It would make the game even more boring and slow.

Replay wouldn't interrupt the flow of the game for soccer. The game's flow is already interrupted by players pretending to be hurt, laying on the ground, and player substitutions. It only takes a few seconds of looking at replay to see that the ball was clearly behind the goal line or that a player was offside by at least 2 yards.

The refs aren't even held accountable for the calls they make. There's so little scoring in the game of soccer that a single goal can absolutely change the outcome of the game. Soccer is a game of momentum, and when the refs misjudge calls on the biggest stage of world sporting events, it has huge implications and consequences for the teams playing and for viewers/fans around the world. A simple replay review could easily fix that.

Your reasons against replay in baseball is my exact reason for replay in baseball. The game is stop and go anyway. Cameras catch the play on the spot. Commentators know the result within seconds of the play.

Replay in soccer would change the dynamic of the game. I think.

ACamp always had something about him I couldn't place. Now I know why, he reminds me of Cushing...

It's all so clear now. Hell maybe he is Brian posing as some Argentinian soccer teacher. Lay off the juice Brian, I mean ACamp.

Finally we agree! Woo hoo! Hallejuah!

I really do think the Dutch got Brazil handled.

Oh yeah, and Alemania will be all over Argentina like Mexican carteles on Maradona's property in a few days.

You know they'll have Maradona's head right?

The vuvuzelas.

The vuvuzelas.

The vuvuzelas.

5 minutes of watching Japan/Paraguay, and I had to mute the volume. Those things are just driving me crazier. I don't know how fights have not broken out in the stadium as a result of those frikken obnoxious things.

I'm watching that one too and they do sounds a little louder than usual today. I love watching soccer but those things are making it tough to watch this world cup. I hope I don't have to hear them anymore after this world cup.
