WR Peake names his favorites - Insider - ESPN

Steve Wiltfong ISD
3/11

Charone Peake (Reobuck, S.C./Dorman) didn't have to wait long for his first scholarship offer.
Two big ones came in just after his freshman season. Rivals Clemson and South Carolina quickly offered the ESPN 150 Watch List receiver, and a little over two years later, Peake is now one of the most sought after prospects in the country.
"At the time I was just thinking I need to work harder and get more," the 6-foot-3, 191-pound Peake said.
Now Peake, a future U.S. Army All-American, stands in with over 20 scholarship offers from the likes of Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, USC, LSU, Tennessee, North Carolina, Stanford and Notre Dame.
Early in the process, Peake says Florida, Georgia and Clemson make up his top three.
"Those are the ones I've been talking to a lot, but I've been open to anybody," Peake said.
According to Peake, Notre Dame offered him three or four weeks ago, and he hasn't heard from the staff since.
"I have an interest in Notre Dame," Peake said.
"I know they have the new coach from Cincinnati and he throws the ball a lot and they're on TV every week. They have a good history up there and good tradition.
"I've been meaning to call them."
As a junior, Peake helped lead his team to a state championship victory over national powerhouse Byrnes. He finished the year with over 50 receptions for 800-plus yards and eight touchdowns.
Peake has only taken visits to his three favorites, and has no other future trips planned. He also isn't sure on a timetable for a college decision.
"Just a good place to be and a good coaching staff," Peake said of what he's looking for in a school.
Peake also mentioned how schools outside of his top three can move up with him.
"Keep in contact with me so I don't forget about them."

Per ESPN's On the Trail:

Six stand out for ESPNU 150 Watch List talent Charone Peake

Top wide receiver Charone Peak (Reobuck, S.C./Dorman) listed his favorites for ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com and gave a timetable for his decision.

"Right now, I'm liking Clemson, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Southern Cal. I don't know when I'm going to make my decision but it could be before the season starts."

LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Miami-FL, South Carolina, California, Kentucky, Maryland, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss are among his other offers.

Last fall, the 6-foot-3, 191-pound prospect caught 52 passes for 881 yards (16.9 average) and nine touchdowns.

No Surprise Peake Declares for Instate Clemson

No Surprise Peake Declares for Instate Clemson

6/16

Per ESPN's Bill Hodge's On The Trail Charone Peake committed to Clemson over UGA UF UNC USC and ND.

... ESPN's Billy Tucker said of the news, "Not a real surprise with this announcement as Peake appeared to be a lock for the in-state Tigers. The 6-foot-3 playmaker is Clemson's third ESPNU 150 commitment in what is shaping up to be a very good class in the early stage for head coach Dabo Swinney."

"In Peake, ESPN's No. 1 rated receiving prospect, the Tigers are getting a rare type of prospect at the position with difference maker qualities. Versus man or zone coverages, this guy has the ability to separate and get open; his size to speed combination can be dominating at the high school level. His hands are very reliable as well and he makes the tough grab in traffic utilizing his large frame or on the contested jump-ball matchup with his great athleticism. He can also make things happen with the ball in his hands after the catch. Peake has good long-speed and overall the type of tools and skill-set that require a defense's attention on every down."
