Big 12 staying together is great news for ND staying independent. Probably won't be much moving around now.

I don't understand all the bitching from A&M fans. What is their deal? I understand they hate being Texas' little brother, but this sounds like a pretty good deal for everyone in the Big 12...more money and a smaller conference to try and win.

So they move to the SEC and free themselves from Texas, only to never win a conference title in the face of LSU, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, etc?

Funny to hear ESPN say Texas saved the Big 12, while Nebraska blames Texas as the reason they left, and A&M fans could give a rat's ass and would like to get away from them. From reading an A&M forum, I gathered that SEC really wanted A&M and A&M wanted them. Wonder what happened there...

Texas is the major player in the Big12. Had they left, regardless of Nebraska and Colorado, the Big12 would have caved in. Texas has nothing to lose here. I am sure they were promised a larger share of the revenue pie and if not they got paid out somehow.

i would venture to guess that money was a key figure in that decision for A&M

Well, granted money is the factor in all of this, but I'm not so sure A&M benefits at all from staying. I mentioned in an earlier post a couple of days ago that it made no sense for the Big 12 to fold. I guess the Aggies finally were convinced of that too. I just read or heard that even bigger powers, I mean big big powers got involved with the salvage of the conference. Since I am currently baking some pork chops, my attention was split and I can't remember the source. I bet it was a highly placed source, but at least my pork chop was delish.

yeah i had no idea why the BIG 12 would ever want to fold, just because alot of the schools have traditions together from the SWC to the BIG 8.

hahaha toosha my old friend. i have never quite figured out how you count or type for that matter, but maybe you have one of those old lady keyboards with the huge buttons to make it easier.

I wouldn't take anything as a definite with this. The Big 9 could in no way have an appealing TV market. What do they have? Houston and Dallas? San Antonio? Oklahoma City? St. Louis? Not enough.

It's not always just about the markets inside the Conference footprint. ND's biggest draw is the wide following they have, in almost every major city. Texas is a big University, and has alumni all over the country. They bring in viewers well outside of Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, St. Louis, et. al.
