If you get a chance watch the interview on UND.com and/or the Rivals interview of him after practice today. They are similar, but he focuses on slightly different aspects of the defense in either one. Here's the Rivals link: Diaco likes Smith's skills - Rivals.com Video

My first impression: This guy has got it "going on." He seems to be very intelligent with a quiet intensity that makes me, as a listener feel like he is a genuinely nice gentleman with the potential to snap at any time. Think he has "future head coach" written all over him, but we will have to see. While his intensity and dedication is clearly there, we need to see good schematics and solid fundamentals out of his defenses in order for us to have a successful year.

I completely agree with your sentiment. But, when you consider the tandem of Kelly and Diaco, what's more accomplished than 12-0?

13-0

12-0 isn't good enough ...

but it's a good start.

You guys quit picking on Tenuta, he was at least as good as Davie.:) lol, give him a chance, only time will tell.

The media that have been covering ND for a while have to be experiencing culture shock when talking to Diaco. The guy can chat it up and is at no loss for words.

Compare that with Jon Tenuta's personality, night and day.

Reporter: What do you like most about Manti Te'o?

Tenuta: He's a college football player.

That's still my favorite JT line

Reporter: What can you tell us about Brian Smith?

Diaco: (deep breath) followed by 10 minute answer

actually Davie was a much better D coordinator under Holtz than Tenuta was under Weis.

You are actually correct, although I must say I was not impressed with either's defenses.
But true Davie's defense his first year actually gave up a TD less per game than did Tenuta's. and Davie's defense did improve over the next two years.

I would be happy if ND could go 12-1. That is what these guys did last year.
