Said his coach said ND was trying to contact him but he hasn't heard from them. Says he is expecting offers from Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Iowa soon. Also says he wants to play in a offense where they run the ball.

I would extend an offer, but I would much rather like Kelly to recruit Hayes, Brown, and Green hard. If we don't any of those 3 then oh well, not taking a runningback this year won't hurt us.. Maybe recruit him as a linebacker..

If he wants to go to a program that runs heavily, then why would he consider notre dame? even if we do offer, i wouldnt expect to be in any serious running for contention for him...id much rather take green

thats what i thought, untill i remembered i saw that kelly thinks robert hughes could have a good year this year a 5'11" 235lb RB, and out of the RB commits this year kelly really likes cameron roberson a 6'1" 220lb RB, but we do have a lot of RBs, yet you can move rodney coe to ILB were we do need help.

Whoa!

You added the word "heavily" to neoroks32's comment, altering it considerably.

Also says he wants to play in a offense where they run the ball.

A Kelly Offense will never be confused with Navy, Air Force, or Georgia Tech but Cincinnati does run the ball. Cincinnati was ranked #69 out of 120 Div 1 Teams. UC rushed in '09 for less than 10 yds/game than Tennessee, FSU, Texas, and Nebraska did.

UC averaged more yds/game than Miami, BC, MSU, Oklahoma, UNC, Houston, ND, Rutgers, Arkansas, Missouri, LSU, South Carolina, UCLA, and Iowa.

Perhaps more significantly Cincinnati didn't run as often as many teams but they ran it more effectively. At 4.99 yds/carry only 11 teams had a higher number than the Bearcat backs. Let me rephrase that, Cincinnati was the 12th most effective rushing team in the nation in '09.

Isaiah Pead was a 3 Star Rivals back yet he averaged 6.7 ypc behind a lowly ranked OLine. The System permitted him to make his carries count.

As a 5 star # 6 RB Coe may believe he can run with abandon in that System behind a better OLine and with more talented skill players surrounding him.

I would love to see a smaller quick RB along with Coe for the 2011 commits because ND will still run in the spread plus the RB will also be much more involved in the receiving game with the new offense and to be able to give different looks to the D is very important and Coe could very well do that with his size, the power speed combo he has is insane.

The ND staff did contact Coe today who also got an offer from Alabama. Didnt say if he was offered but Coe said one of his big deciding factors will be distance. He wants to stay close to home.

Admissions will be a hurdle.

He lives with his grandmother and doesn't want to go far away from home. Edwardsville, IL is down by St. Louis. Missouri and Illinois are therefore closest. His dad also lives in Columbia, MO.

Those two teams could be tough to beat, and considering the uncertainty at Illinois with Zook, I'd say Mizzou is the best bet for now.

sounds like we need to find his grandmother a nice place in SB...

Of course we don't need USC style sanctions, but if we get off as scott-free as them, we'll be alright putting her up in a 2 million dollared placed with a custom hum-vee...

notre dame has extended an offer according to scout

Did they? Do you have an article to cite or a link for confirmation?

His Scout Profile shows an offer but there doesn't seem to be anything else. I don't see any of the other services listing it. The Offer Lists at B&G and ISD both show Coe as "Interested" or "Prospect".

A goggle search didn't reveal an offer either.

He's been reported to have academic issues (for ND anyhow) did a semester just end with improved grades or did he get a good SAT/ACT score back in the mail?

There's a 3/14 article by Suntimes.com by no mention of ND:

Illinois' top 10 recruits for 2011 - Football's Second Season

Coe is the best running back in Illinois. The 6-3, 230-pounder has 4.5 speed. He is one of the premier big backs in the nation. He has offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan State, Iowa, Alabama, Tennessee and Kansas State.

There's a 2/24/10 article on TideSport.com where Coe's coach notes that ND wants to see Coe on campus before offering. Was he at practice this past week? I don't recall him visiting.

TideSports.com | View topic - Tide offers 5* IL RB/LB Rodney Coe

Alabama is one of many schools that have offered the ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect. Others include Illinois, Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa, Wisconsin. Bliss said Notre Dame told him it's going to offer as well but wants to bring him on campus first.

Update via ESPN: We wrote Monday about how Rodney Coe, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound athlete/tailback prospect out of Illinois, is among the running backs being targeted by Auburn. The Tigers could be in for quite a recruiting fight with rivals Alabama, however. According to ESPN affiliate CrimsonConfidential.com, Coe came away from his visit to Tuscaloosa very impressed with the Crimson Tide, and at the moment Bama and Auburn appear to be neck-and-neck. He hopes to cut down his suitors to six or seven schools shortly (he is up to 34 offers), and there's a very good chance that the Tide and the Tigers will be near the top of his short list.

Earlier ...

Illinois ATH Rodney Coe is not on the ESPNU 150 Watch List, but he may find himself in the actual 150 before all is said and done. Coe is highly regarded as a running back, but at 6-foot-2, 245 pounds he can play on either side of the ball. (He is like fellow Class of 2011 prospect James Wilder II in that regard -- an over-sized ATH who prefers RB to defense, even though many coaches see him as an LB or DE.)

Coe's grandfather, Charles, who is now a high school coach, spent three years at Tennessee under Johnny Majors and was also a Lane Kiffin assistant with the Oakland Raiders. Coe also has offers from the likes of Alabama, Miami, Nebraska and Notre Dame, so you know he's a big-time prospect.

Last September, Pool wrote that Illinois might have the inside track on Coe, but with all these national offers at his feet, it seems unlikely that Coe would pick a coach (Ron Zook) who might not be there in another year. And while the folks at InsideTennessee.com may feel differently, we're not convinced that the Vols have a great shot either, since Charles Coe's stint in Knoxville came before Rodney was even born.
