Irish Skaters Whip Lake Superior St 6-1

ND exploded in the 2nd period scoring 5 times including all of Calle Ridderwall's Hat Trick to break a 1-1 tie.

The win improves the Irish to 11-10-6 overall and 7-7-5-2 in the CCHA, good for 28 points. The victory also extended Notre Dame's unbeaten streak versus Lake Superior to 11 games (9-0-2) since December of 2005. The Lakers are now 14-9-4 on the year and 9-8-2-1 in conference play for 30 points, just two ahead of the Irish in fourth place.

Hopefully, things are turning around for the guys. Great offensive performance by all sounds of it last night. One worrrisome note, Ian Cole suffered a concussion. These guys have been snake bit this year and the officiating in the CCHA leaves much to be desired. Several of the injuries, including last night's (by all accounts) were due to dirty play (charging, boarding, hits from behind, etc.).

As the new big name in the league it seems all the cheap shot artists are aiming for the Irish. The hit from behind in the Ferris State game was unbelievable. I was sitting next to a Ferris State parent who actually apologized to me for how cheap, dirty and dangerous the hit was.

Johnson seems to be coming on in goal.

GO IRISH - need to work for that first round CCHA playoff bye. Just remember, take them one game at a time.

By the way, Irish tied LSS 1 - 1 last night. Another thug from LSS hit with a major boarding and game disqualification. Johnson had 45 saves in the game. LSS won the shootout. Irish in 6th in the CCHA but only 3 points out of 4th.
