With all the madness surrounding college football these days lets all at some point throughout the day stop and think of the people of Haiti and what they are dealing with. Its terrible to see something like this happen, especially to one of the poorest places on earth. They dont have the means to deal with a major catastrophe like this. So next time you think you are having a bad day or your life sucks.....Stop and think how your life COULD be. I wish I could help them. These situations make me feel totally helpless.

I have a lifelong friend who is a nun down there. She's based in NJ but has been in Haiti about 20 miles from Port-au-Prince. She works with a medical mission group with a Notre Dame connection. So far no one back here has heard from her.

:sigh: Thats too bad my friend. Keep me posted if you do hear anything. In the meantime I will keep your friend in my thoughts as well. I wish Vbucks were real cuz I would donate every single penny.

My mom is Dominican, born there and raised in New York. When I was a child I studied about the Diminican Republic and as an extention Haiti as well. Already unbelievably poor, it's heartbreaking what happened. Keep those people in your prayers; Lord knows they need them and so much more...

ND has had a long time presence in Haiti. Often there are students there, although most often in the summer. Thoughts and prayers to all affected in country and to all of their friends and relatives here and around the world.

Notre Dame student in Haiti is safe; University is organizing Mass and relief fund // News // Office of News and Information // University of Notre Dame

From the University website it looks like one student, 4 University staff and an alum working with the ND program there have all been reported safe.

God Bless all of Haiti.

Any word on your friend yet? Hopefully she's just super busy with taking care of people down there. Just curious.

Nothing which I take as good news. Thanks for asking. I'll post some news when I hear of any.

My children play almost everyday with three kids adopted from Haiti several years. My wife and I affectionately refer to them as the Haiti Gang, They're all good kids and my kids have a blast with them. When the news came on the other night regarding the tragedy, my children had questions, they recognized the name Haiti and knew their friends were born there. I explained to them what has happened. They have a new perspective of how lucky we are to live in the United States. My daughter asked if she could donate some dolls to little girls in Haiti that night... for a five year old I am very proud she's thinking that way. I explained they needed food and water most right now. So together we got online and donated to the International red cross, She and my 7 year old son suggested we give them a gazillion dollars. Not quite but we did what we could.

It's tough to comprehend the suffering that many go through. I think of my lowest times, and this has to be 1000% worse. It makes you feel helpless, I donated to the Red Cross for Haiti, and can only hope it makes at least a tiny difference.

BGIF,

Prayers from here as well for you and especially your friend.

Several people I know are leaving on Monday to go to Haiti for 7 - 10 days to do medical relief work. Last update we received today from in country is that things are improving as far as organization and such.

Everyone there still needs our prayers and our donations most of all.

Good luck,
PI37
